هُمْ مَصابِيحُ الظُّلَمِ، ويَنابِيعُ الحِكَمِ، ومَعادِنُ العِلْمِ، ومَواطِنُ الحِلْمِ۔

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.
The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
They are the lamps in the darkness, the springs of wisdom, the sources of knowledge and the loci of forbearance.
This beautiful saying highlights the elevated status and qualities of the Ahl al-Bayt, particularly Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ). Let us delve into the meanings of the important words in this Hadith and explore their significance in light of the Quran.
The term (مَصابِيحُ) "lamps" signifies guidance, illumination, and enlightenment. In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) describes Himself as the (Surah An-Nur, 24:35)
Light of the heavens and the earth
This light is a metaphor for divine guidance and knowledge. Similarly, the Ahl al-Bayt, especially Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), are described as lamps in the darkness, symbolizing their role in guiding humanity towards the path of righteousness and truth.
The term (يَنابِيعُ الحِكَمِ) "springs of wisdom" emphasizes the abundant knowledge and wisdom possessed by the Ahl al-Bayt. In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states, (Surah Al-Hijr, 15:87)
And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur'an
This verse highlights the comprehensive knowledge bestowed upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and by extension, the Ahl al-Bayt. They are the inheritors of the Prophet's wisdom and knowledge, and their teachings serve as a source of guidance for all Muslims.
The term (مَعادِنُ العِلْمِ) "sources of knowledge" further emphasizes the vast knowledge possessed by the Ahl al-Bayt. In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states, (Surah Al-Mujadila, 58:11)
Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees
This verse highlights the importance of knowledge and its elevation in the sight of Allah. The Ahl al-Bayt, particularly Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), are the ultimate sources of knowledge, as they possess divine wisdom and understanding of the Quran and Sunnah.
The term (مَواطِنُ الحِلْمِ) "loci of forbearance" refers to the Ahl al-Bayt's exceptional patience, tolerance, and forbearance. In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) praises those who exercise patience, stating, (Surah Al-Hud, 11:115)
And be patient, for indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good
The Ahl al-Bayt, especially Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), exemplify the highest levels of forbearance in the face of adversity, oppression, and injustice. Their ability to remain steadfast and patient serves as a source of inspiration for all Muslims.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) bless us with the ability to recognize and benefit from the immense wisdom and guidance of the Ahl al-Bayt.
