(Ghurar al-Hikam: Reliance On Allah)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ وَثِقَ بِاللّهِ تَوَكَّلَ۔

This can be translated as,

Whoever relies upon Allah puts his trust in Him.

This profound statement by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of placing our complete trust and reliance in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

To understand the depth and significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of the key words. The word (wathiq) "وَثِقَ" means to rely, depend, or have confidence in someone or something. It implies a strong and unwavering trust. The word (tawakkal) "تَوَكَّلَ" means to place one's trust, to have complete reliance, and to surrender oneself to Allah's will.

In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of relying on Him and putting our trust in Him. For example, in Surah Al-Anfal (8:2), Allah says,

Indeed, the believers are those whose hearts tremble with fear when Allah is mentioned, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely.

This verse beautifully illustrates the connection between reliance on Allah and increasing faith.

Another verse that highlights the significance of relying on Allah is found in Surah At-Talaq (65:3), where Allah says,

And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.

This verse assures us that when we place our trust in Allah, He will be sufficient for us and take care of our affairs.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to have unwavering trust in Allah in all aspects of their lives. By relying on Allah, we acknowledge His infinite wisdom, power, and ability to guide and protect us. This trust in Allah should be the foundation of our actions, decisions, and overall outlook on life.

When we rely on Allah, we surrender our worries, fears, and anxieties to Him. We understand that He is the ultimate source of support and guidance. This reliance on Allah brings about a sense of peace, contentment, and tranquility in our hearts, knowing that He is in control of all affairs.

Relying on Allah does not mean that we sit idle and do nothing. Rather, it motivates us to take action and make efforts while having complete trust in Allah's plan. We strive to fulfill our responsibilities, knowing that the ultimate outcome is in Allah's hands. This reliance on Allah strengthens our faith and helps us overcome challenges and obstacles with patience and perseverance.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith also reminds us of the consequences of relying on Allah. When we trust in Allah, He becomes our ultimate protector, guide, and helper. He grants us strength, wisdom, and blessings beyond our imagination. Our reliance on Allah strengthens our relationship with Him and brings us closer to attaining His pleasure and mercy.

Reflecting on this Hadith, we should strive to cultivate a deep and unwavering trust in Allah in our daily lives. We should rely on Him in times of ease and difficulty, knowing that He is the best of planners. By placing our complete trust in Allah, we can find solace, guidance, and success in this world and the hereafter.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to rely on Him and put our complete trust in Him. May He strengthen our faith and grant us the wisdom to understand the profound teachings of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ). Ameen.
