Hadith #8721

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The worst of things is displeasure with the divine decree.

This beautiful Hadith highlights the importance of accepting and submitting to the will of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in all aspects of our lives.

Let us first delve into the key words of this Hadith. The word (sakhath) "سَخَطُ" refers to displeasure, anger, or resentment. And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.

This verse emphasizes the importance of resolving conflicts and disputes among believers in a just manner. It teaches us that we should not let our personal desires or emotions dictate our actions, but rather adhere to the divine decree and seek justice. Displeasure with the divine decree can lead to oppression and injustice, which are condemned in Islam.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:216), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.

This verse reminds us that our limited understanding may lead us to dislike or reject certain situations, but Allah's wisdom surpasses our comprehension. What we perceive as negative or undesirable may actually be beneficial for us in the long run. Therefore, it is crucial to trust in Allah's plan and accept His decree with patience and gratitude.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a reminder for Muslims to cultivate a mindset of acceptance and contentment with the divine decree.
