(Ghurar al-Hikam: Good Turns And Benevolent Actions)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "الإحسانُ رأسُ الفضلِ" which translates to

Kindness is the pinnacle of excellence.

This impactful saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of kindness in our lives and its significance in attaining true excellence.

The word (ihsan) "إحسان" in this Hadith refers to acts of kindness, goodness, and excellence. It encompasses the concept of going above and beyond in our actions, treating others with compassion, and striving to do good in all aspects of our lives. It is a comprehensive term that encompasses both our relationship with Allah and our interactions with fellow human beings.

The Quranic verses support the significance of kindness and its connection to excellence. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 195:

And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.

This verse emphasizes the importance of performing acts of kindness and goodness, as it is something that is beloved to Allah.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Isra, verse 23, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], 'uff,' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.

This verse highlights the importance of kindness towards our parents, emphasizing that even a small act of disrespect or annoyance is discouraged.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement reminds us that kindness is not only a virtue but also a means to attain excellence in all aspects of our lives. When we embody kindness in our actions, we not only please Allah but also create a positive impact on those around us.

Kindness has the power to transform relationships, resolve conflicts, and bring about positive change in society. When we treat others with kindness, we foster a sense of unity, empathy, and compassion. It is through acts of kindness that we can build bridges, mend broken hearts, and bring people closer to the path of righteousness.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) enlightening saying serves as a reminder for us as Muslims to prioritize kindness in our daily lives. It encourages us to reflect on our actions and strive to embody the values of kindness, compassion, and empathy in all our interactions.

Let us remember that kindness is not limited to grand gestures but can be found in the smallest acts of compassion, such as a smile, a kind word, or a helping hand. By practicing kindness, we not only fulfill our duty towards our fellow human beings but also draw closer to Allah's pleasure and attain true excellence in our character.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us all to be people of kindness and excellence, and may He shower His blessings upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
