Hadith #2931

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلَامُ), and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The riser has risen, the dazzler has dazzled, the apparent has appeared and the crooked has been straightened.

This amazing Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) contains deep meanings and can be understood in light of the Quran.

Let us first analyze the important words in this Hadith. The word (tāliʿ) "طالِعٌ" means "riser" or "one who rises." It signifies someone who emerges or becomes prominent. The word (lāmiʿ) "لامِعٌ" means "dazzler" or "one who dazzles." It refers to someone who shines brightly and attracts attention. The word (lāʾiḥ) "لائِحٌ" means "apparent" or

one who is visible.

It indicates someone who is clearly seen or known. Lastly, the word (māʾil) "مائِلٌ" means "crooked" or

one who is bent.

It represents someone who deviates from the right path or is inclined towards wrongdoing.

To understand the deeper meaning of this Hadith, we can refer to the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Anfal (8:30),

And [remember, O Muhammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.

This verse highlights the concept of divine planning and how Allah's plans always prevail over the plans of the disbelievers. In the context of the Hadith, the "riser" refers to the rise of truth and justice, which can never be suppressed by the plots of the disbelievers. No matter how hard they try to hinder the truth, it will always emerge victorious.

Furthermore, the Quran emphasizes the concept of guidance and enlightenment. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:257), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Allah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light.

This verse signifies that Allah guides the believers and leads them from darkness towards the light of truth. The "dazzler" mentioned in the Hadith can be understood as the guidance and enlightenment provided by Allah, which shines brightly and attracts people towards the path of righteousness.

Moreover, the Quran emphasizes the importance of clarity and manifest truth. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:256), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong.

This verse highlights that the truth is clear and distinct from falsehood. The "apparent" mentioned in the Hadith can be understood as the clarity and visibility of the truth, which enables people to distinguish between right and wrong.

Lastly, the Quran warns against deviation and crookedness. In Surah Al-Qasas (28:49), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Indeed, the criminals will be in the punishment of Hell, abiding eternally therein. It will not be allowed to subside for them, and they, therein, are in despair.

This verse highlights the consequences of deviating from the straight path. The "crooked" mentioned in the Hadith can be understood as those who deviate from the path of righteousness and face the consequences of their actions.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) conveys profound meanings that can be understood in light of the Quran. It emphasizes the rise of truth and justice, the guidance and enlightenment provided by Allah, the clarity and visibility of the truth, and the consequences of deviation from the right path. As Muslims, we should reflect upon these teachings and strive to align ourselves with the riser, the dazzler, the apparent, and the straightened. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us all to the path of righteousness and grant us success in this life and the hereafter.
