Hadith #1593

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

لايَعِزُّ مَنْ لَجَأ إلَى الباطِلِ۔

This can be translated as,

One who resorts to falsehood does not become powerful.

Let us delve into the significance of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word (layaizzu) "لايَعِزُّ" in this Hadith is derived from the root word (izz) "عزّ", which means power, honor, or dignity. It refers to the state of being respected, esteemed, and influential. The word (man) "مَنْ" means "one who" or "whoever." (laja'a) "لَجَأ" means to resort to or seek refuge in. And finally, (al-batil) "الباطِلِ" means falsehood or falsehoods.

In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the importance of truthfulness and warns against falsehood. Allah says in Surah Al-Isra (17:81),

And say, 'Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed is falsehood, [by nature], ever bound to depart.'

This verse highlights the transient nature of falsehood and its ultimate defeat in the face of truth.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hajj (22:30), Allah says,

That [has been commanded], and whoever honors the sacred ordinances of Allah - it is best for him in the sight of his Lord.

This verse emphasizes the importance of upholding the truth and adhering to the sacred teachings of Allah, which ultimately leads to honor and success.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder to Muslims that resorting to falsehood will not bring about true power or honor. It is a thought-provoking Hadith that highlights the importance of truthfulness and integrity in all aspects of life.
