غايَةُ المُؤْمِنِ الجَنَّةُ۔
The goal of a believer is Paradise.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Believer)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "غايَةُ المُؤْمِنِ الجَنَّةُ۔" This can be translated as,
The goal of a believer is Paradise.
Let us delve into the significance of this Hadith in light of the Quran.
Firstly, let us reflect upon the word (ghayah) "غايَةُ" which can be translated as "goal" or "ultimate aim." It signifies the ultimate purpose or objective that a believer strives to achieve. In this context, it refers to the ultimate destination that a believer seeks, which is Paradise.
The word (mu'min) "مُؤْمِنِ" refers to a believer, someone who has faith in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and His Messenger (ﷺ). It encompasses not only a belief in the heart but also actions that manifest this belief. A true believer is one who submits to the will of Allah and follows the teachings of Islam.
Now, let us explore the concept of Paradise in the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) describes Paradise as a place of eternal bliss and reward for the righteous. In Surah Al-Insan (76:19), Allah says,
And there will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected.
This verse highlights the beauty and luxury that awaits the believers in Paradise.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Waqi'ah (56:22-24), Allah describes Paradise as a reward for the righteous, saying,
And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, the likenesses of pearls well-protected, as reward for what they used to do.
These verses emphasize the rewards and pleasures that await the believers in the Hereafter.
Now, let us reflect on the essence of Imam Ali's statement. The goal of a believer is not merely the attainment of worldly desires or temporary pleasures. Instead, it is the eternal bliss and reward of Paradise that the believer strives for. This Hadith reminds us that the ultimate purpose of our existence is to seek the pleasure of Allah and to secure our place in Paradise.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of having a clear and noble goal in life. By setting our sights on Paradise, we are motivated to lead a righteous and virtuous life. This goal serves as a guiding light, shaping our choices and actions in accordance with the teachings of Islam.
The belief in Paradise as the ultimate goal also provides solace and comfort in times of hardship and adversity. When faced with challenges, the believer finds strength and perseverance by reminding themselves of the eternal rewards that await them in the Hereafter.
Moreover, this Hadith serves as a reminder that the pursuit of Paradise should not be limited to mere words or empty claims. It requires sincere faith, righteous actions, and a continuous striving towards self-improvement. The believer must constantly seek knowledge, perform acts of worship, and engage in acts of kindness and charity to attain the ultimate goal of Paradise.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us that the goal of a believer is Paradise. It emphasizes the importance of having a clear and noble objective in life, which is to seek the pleasure of Allah and secure our place in the eternal bliss of Paradise. By aligning our actions and intentions with this goal, we strive to lead a righteous life and attain the ultimate reward promised by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). May Allah grant us the ability to be true believers and guide us to Paradise.
