Hadith #6069

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Blessings and peace be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ أطاعَ اللّهَ لَمْ يَشْقَ أبَداً۔

This can be translated as,

One who obeys Allah will never become wretched.

Let us delve into the significance of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word (ata'a) "أطاعَ" in Arabic means to obey, comply, or follow. It implies submitting to the commands and guidance of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). Obedience to Allah is the cornerstone of a believer's life, as it encompasses following His commandments, adhering to His teachings, and striving to please Him in all aspects of life.

Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the significance of obedience in numerous verses of the Quran. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 208, Allah says,

O you who have believed, enter into peace completely and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

This verse highlights the importance of following the path of peace and righteousness, which can only be achieved through obedience to Allah's commands.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Nisa, verse 59, Allah states,

O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.

This verse emphasizes the necessity of obeying Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ), as well as those in authority, as long as their commands do not contradict the teachings of Islam.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith highlights the profound consequences of obedience to Allah. It assures us that one who sincerely obeys Allah will never become wretched. This implies that obedience to Allah brings about blessings, contentment, and success in both this world and the Hereafter.

When a Muslim wholeheartedly submits to Allah's commands, they align themselves with the divine will and purpose. They strive to fulfill their obligations, avoid prohibitions, and follow the path of righteousness. Such obedience leads to a life of peace, tranquility, and fulfillment, as it is in accordance with the natural disposition (fitrah) that Allah has instilled within us.

Obedience to Allah also safeguards us from the harmful consequences of sin and disobedience. It shields us from the spiritual and moral decay that results from straying away from His guidance. By obeying Allah, we protect ourselves from the pitfalls and tribulations that can lead to misery and despair.

Moreover, obedience to Allah is not limited to fulfilling religious obligations. It extends to all aspects of our lives, including our relationships, work, and personal conduct. When we adhere to the principles of honesty, justice, kindness, and compassion, we are obeying Allah's commandments and embodying the teachings of Islam.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) beautiful saying serves as a reminder for Muslims to prioritize obedience to Allah in their lives. It encourages us to seek knowledge, understand His commandments, and implement them in our daily actions. By doing so, we can attain true success and avoid the pitfalls of a wretched existence.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us that obedience to Allah is the key to a blessed and fulfilling life. It assures us that those who sincerely submit to Allah's commands will never become wretched.
