Hadith #4448

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

نِعْمَ قَرينُ الإيمانِ الرِّضا۔

This translates to,

What a good companion of faith satisfaction is!

This wise utterance of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of being content and satisfied with the decree of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in all aspects of our lives.

To fully comprehend the significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of the key words. "Qarin" refers to a companion or a close associate, while "Iman" signifies faith or belief. Lastly, "rida" translates to satisfaction or contentment. Thus, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is emphasizing the value of having satisfaction as a constant companion to one's faith.

In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of contentment and satisfaction. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 216, Allah says,

But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.

This verse reminds us that sometimes we may dislike certain situations or outcomes, but they may ultimately be beneficial for us. Therefore, it is crucial to trust in Allah's wisdom and be content with His decree.

Furthermore, in Surah At-Tawbah, verse 59, Allah says,

And among them are those who criticize you concerning the [distribution of] charities. If they are given from them, they approve; but if they are not given from them, at once they become angry.

This verse highlights the importance of being satisfied with the decisions and actions of others, even in matters of charity. It teaches us to avoid becoming displeased or resentful when things do not go according to our desires.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement encourages us to cultivate a mindset of contentment and satisfaction, not only in times of ease but also during trials and hardships. When we face difficulties, it is natural to experience moments of frustration or disappointment. However, true faith lies in accepting and embracing the divine wisdom behind every situation.

For example, if we encounter financial difficulties, instead of complaining or feeling resentful, we should strive to find contentment in the knowledge that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is testing us and that there may be hidden blessings in our struggles. This mindset allows us to maintain a positive attitude and seek solutions with patience and trust in Allah's plan.

Moreover, being satisfied with the decree of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) also helps us develop gratitude for the blessings we have been bestowed with. When we are content with what we have, we are less likely to compare ourselves to others or constantly seek more. This leads to a sense of peace and tranquility within our hearts.

In conclusion, Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith reminds us of the importance of having satisfaction as a constant companion to our faith. It teaches us to trust in Allah's wisdom and be content with His decree, even in times of difficulty. By cultivating a mindset of contentment, we can find peace, gratitude, and true fulfillment in our lives as Muslims. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to embrace satisfaction as a companion to our faith and lead us to the path of righteousness.
