لاعِبادَةَ كَأداءِ الفَرائِضِ۔
There is no worship like the performing of obligatory acts.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Obligatory And Recommended Acts)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "لاعِبادَةَ كَأداءِ الفَرائِضِ۔" This can be translated as,
There is no worship like the performing of obligatory acts.
Let us delve into the meaning of this statement in light of the Quran.
The word (ibadah) "عِبَادَةَ" in Arabic refers to the act of worship, devotion, and obedience to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It encompasses all actions, both physical and spiritual, that are performed with the intention of seeking closeness to Allah. The word (ka'ada) "كَأداءِ" means "like" or "similar to," and (al-fara'id) "الفَرائِضِ" refers to the obligatory acts of worship prescribed by Allah.
The emphasis in this Hadith is on the significance of fulfilling the obligatory acts of worship. These acts, such as the five daily prayers, fasting in Ramadan, paying Zakat, and performing Hajj, are fundamental pillars of Islam. They are obligatory upon every Muslim and form the foundation of our relationship with Allah.
To understand the importance of fulfilling these obligations, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah says in Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 43,
And establish prayer and give Zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience].
Here, Allah emphasizes the establishment of prayer and the giving of Zakah as essential acts of worship.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hajj, Ayah 77, Allah says,
O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good - that you may succeed.
This verse highlights the importance of bowing, prostrating, and worshipping Allah in the prescribed manner, which is fulfilled through the performance of obligatory acts.
The exegesis of this Hadith teaches us that while voluntary acts of worship hold great merit and reward, they cannot replace or be considered equal to the obligatory acts. Fulfilling our obligations is the foundation of our faith and demonstrates our submission to Allah's commands.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his deep knowledge and understanding of Islam, reminds us that true worship lies in the fulfillment of our obligations. By performing the obligatory acts, we demonstrate our obedience, sincerity, and devotion to Allah. These acts serve as a means of purifying our souls, strengthening our connection with Allah, and seeking His pleasure.
Neglecting the obligatory acts of worship can have severe consequences. Allah warns in Surah Al-Ma'idah, Ayah 87,
O you who have believed, do not prohibit the good things which Allah has made lawful to you and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors.
By neglecting our obligations, we risk transgressing the limits set by Allah and falling into disobedience.
Reflecting on this Hadith, we should strive to prioritize the fulfillment of our obligations. We should approach them with sincerity, humility, and gratitude, recognizing that they are a means of drawing closer to Allah and attaining His pleasure. By fulfilling our obligations, we establish a solid foundation for our faith and pave the way for spiritual growth and success in this life and the Hereafter.
May Allah guide us all to fulfill our obligations and grant us the ability to worship Him in the best manner. Ameen.
