Hadith #9201

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states: "عادَةُ الكِرامِ اَلجُودُ۔" This can be translated as:

Generosity is the habit of the noble-minded people.

Let us delve into the significance of this Hadith in light of the Quran. The word (aadat) "عادَةُ" refers to a habit or a customary behavior that is deeply ingrained in an individual's character. It is a consistent pattern of behavior that reflects one's inner disposition. The word (alkiram) "الكِرامِ" refers to the noble-minded individuals, those who possess high moral qualities and are known for their honorable conduct. The Quran emphasizes the virtue of generosity and highlights its significance in several verses. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:261):

The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

This verse illustrates the immense reward and blessings that Allah bestows upon those who are generous in spending their wealth for the sake of Allah.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Insan (76:9), Allah describes the righteous believers by saying:

And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive.

This verse highlights the selfless act of providing sustenance to those in need, even when the giver holds a personal attachment to the food being given. It exemplifies the generosity of the noble-minded individuals who prioritize the well-being of others over their own desires.
