In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
The worst of afflictions is love for this world.

Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return.
This verse reminds us that the allure and attractions of this world can be captivating, but they are temporary and fleeting. The pursuit of worldly possessions and desires can distract us from our ultimate purpose in life, which is to worship and seek the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It is important to strike a balance between fulfilling our worldly responsibilities and focusing on our spiritual growth.
Another verse that sheds light on the dangers of excessive attachment to this world is found in Surah Al-Hadid (57:20), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,
Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children - like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris.
This verse beautifully illustrates the transient nature of worldly possessions and the fleeting pleasure they provide. It compares the pursuit of worldly gains to the growth of plants after rain, which eventually wither away and turn into scattered debris. Similarly, the materialistic pursuits of this world may bring temporary satisfaction, but they ultimately lead to disappointment and emptiness.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a reminder for Muslims to prioritize their spiritual well-being over worldly desires. Excessive attachment to this world can lead to a neglect of our duties towards Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and our fellow human beings. It can blind us from the true purpose of our existence and prevent us from attaining eternal success in the Hereafter.
When we become overly attached to the materialistic aspects of this world, we may engage in unethical practices, compromise our values, and neglect our responsibilities towards others. Our love for worldly possessions can lead to greed, envy, and a disregard for the well-being of those around us. It can also distract us from seeking knowledge, developing our character, and performing acts of worship.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a wake-up call for Muslims to reflect upon their priorities and reevaluate their relationship with this world. It encourages us to detach ourselves from the temporary and transient aspects of this life and focus on what truly matters - our relationship with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and our preparation for the eternal life in the Hereafter.
