Hadith #3727

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The word (dunya) "دُنْيا" refers to the temporal world, the materialistic realm that we inhabit. The word (abd) "عَبْد" means servant or slave, indicating our subservience to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and our vulnerability to the temptations of this world.

The Hadith states that when the world comes towards a servant, it (kasathu mahasina ghayrihi) "كَسَتْهُ مَحَاسِنَ غَيْرِهِ", which can be translated as

it covers him with the merits of others.

This implies that when the world favors someone, it bestows upon them the blessings and advantages that belong to others. It is a reminder that worldly success and prosperity are not necessarily indicative of one's own merits or righteousness.

Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Qasas, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states, (18:46)

Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one's] hope

This verse highlights the importance of focusing on righteous actions and deeds that have lasting value in the sight of Allah, rather than being consumed by the temporary adornments of this world.
