(Ghurar al-Hikam: Hell Fire)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

وَفْدُ النّارِ أبَداً مُعَذَّبُونَ۔

This Hadith translates to:

The inmates of hell are eternally tormented.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the key words and their implications. The word (wafdu) "وَفْدُ" refers to the inhabitants or inmates of hell, while (annar) "النّارِ" signifies the fire of hell. The word (abadan) "أبَداً" means forever or eternally, and (mu'adhdhaboon) "مُعَذَّبُونَ" refers to those who are being tormented or punished.

To gain a deeper understanding of this Hadith, we turn to the Quran, which provides us with numerous verses that emphasize the eternal punishment of the inhabitants of hell. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:167):

And those who followed will say, 'If only we had another turn [at worldly life] so we could disassociate ourselves from them as they have disassociated themselves from us.' Thus will Allah show them their deeds as regrets upon them. And they are never to emerge from the Fire.

This verse highlights the remorse and regret that the inhabitants of hell will experience, wishing for another chance to disassociate themselves from the wrongdoers. However, they will be shown their deeds as a source of regret, and they will never be able to escape the torment of the Fire.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Bayyinah (98:6), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states:

Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.

This verse emphasizes that the disbelievers, regardless of their background, will be eternally confined to the fire of Hell. It highlights the severity of their punishment and categorizes them as the worst of creatures.

Reflecting upon the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and the supporting Quranic verses, we understand that the inmates of Hell will face everlasting torment. This serves as a reminder for us as Muslims to strive for righteousness and to avoid actions that may lead us towards the path of eternal punishment.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his immense knowledge and wisdom, shared this Hadith to emphasize the gravity of the consequences of our actions. It serves as a motivation for us to seek forgiveness, repent for our sins, and strive to attain Paradise, where we will be granted eternal bliss and the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the eternal torment that awaits the inhabitants of Hell. It serves as a profound reminder to seek Allah's forgiveness and strive for righteousness in order to attain eternal bliss in the Hereafter. May Allah (تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us all on the straight path and protect us from the punishment of Hell.
