(Ghurar al-Hikam: Nobleness And Munificence)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of two noble qualities:

doing good to others

and

assisting one's brothers [financially].

Let us delve into the deeper meanings of these words and explore their significance in light of the Quran.

The word (nizam) "نِظَامُ" in the Hadith refers to the order or system of nobleness. It implies a structured and organized approach to practicing virtuous deeds. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is teaching us that there is a specific order to follow in order to attain nobility and success in our actions.

The first aspect of this order is (mawalatul ihsan) "مُوالاةُ الإحْسانِ" which translates to

successively doing good to others.

This means that we should consistently and continuously engage in acts of kindness and benevolence towards others. It is not just a one-time act, but rather a continuous effort to spread goodness in our interactions with fellow human beings.

To understand the significance of this aspect, we can turn to the Quran. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 2:195)

And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.

This verse emphasizes the importance of performing good deeds, as it is beloved to Allah. By consistently doing good to others, we not only please Allah but also contribute to the betterment of society.

The second aspect of the order of nobleness is (muwasatul ikhwan) "مُواساةُ الإخْوانِ", which means

assisting one's brothers [financially].

This refers to providing financial support and assistance to those in need, particularly to our fellow Muslims. It highlights the importance of solidarity and compassion within the Muslim community.

The Quran also emphasizes the significance of assisting others in need. In Surah Al-Hashr, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 76:8)

And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive.

This verse encourages Muslims to give generously to those who are less fortunate, demonstrating the importance of financial assistance in Islam.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that by following this order of nobleness, we not only fulfill our duties towards others but also attain success and righteousness in the sight of Allah. When we consistently engage in acts of kindness and assist our brothers and sisters in need, we create a harmonious and supportive community.

Furthermore, this Hadith serves as a reminder of the qualities of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) himself. His profound knowledge and understanding of Islam allowed him to impart such wisdom to the Muslim ummah. He was known for his generosity and compassion, always striving to help those in need. By following his teachings, we can strive to emulate his noble qualities and strengthen our own faith.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of consistently doing good to others and providing financial assistance to our fellow Muslims. By following this order of nobleness, we not only please Allah but also contribute to the betterment of society and strengthen the bonds within the Muslim community. May Allah guide us all to embody these virtues and attain success in this life and the hereafter.
