خَرَقَ عِلْمُ اللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ باطِنَ غَيْبِ السُّتََراتِ، وأحاطَ بِغُمُوضِ عَقائدِ السَّريراتِ۔
The knowledge of Allah, the Glorified, tore through the veils of the unseen and encompassed the darkness of inner-beliefs.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Allah And His Attributes)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
The knowledge of Allah, the Glorified, tore through the veils of the unseen and encompassed the darkness of inner-beliefs.
This thought-provoking Hadith highlights the vastness and depth of Allah's knowledge, which surpasses all human comprehension.
Let us delve into the important words of this Hadith. The word (kharqa) "خَرَقَ" means to tear or penetrate. It signifies the immense power and capability of Allah's knowledge to break through the barriers of the unseen. The word (batin) "بَاطِنَ" refers to the inner or hidden aspects, while (ghayb) "غَيْبِ" refers to the unseen or the realm beyond human perception. (sutaraat) "سُّتََراتِ" refers to veils or coverings that conceal knowledge. (ahata) "أَحَاطَ" means to encompass or surround, indicating the all-encompassing nature of Allah's knowledge. Finally, (ghumood) "غُمُوضِ" refers to darkness or obscurity, symbolizing the complexity and intricacy of inner beliefs.
To understand the depth of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah says in Surah Al-An'am (6:59),
And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him.
This verse emphasizes that Allah alone possesses knowledge of the unseen, which includes the inner beliefs and thoughts of individuals. His knowledge is all-encompassing and penetrates through the veils of the unseen.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-An'am (6:103), Allah says,
No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision.
This verse highlights the incomprehensibility of Allah's knowledge. While human beings are limited in their understanding, Allah's knowledge encompasses everything, including the inner beliefs and thoughts that may be hidden from others.
The exegesis of this Hadith reveals profound insights. It reminds us that Allah's knowledge is not confined to the apparent, but extends to the innermost recesses of our hearts and minds. He knows our deepest thoughts, intentions, and beliefs, even those that we may try to conceal. This knowledge is not limited by time, space, or any barriers. It is comprehensive and all-encompassing.
Understanding this reality should motivate us to be mindful of our inner beliefs and thoughts. We should strive to align them with the teachings of Islam and seek Allah's guidance in purifying our hearts and minds. We should remember that Allah's knowledge encompasses everything, and we cannot hide anything from Him.
Moreover, this Hadith highlights the consequences of our inner beliefs. Just as Allah's knowledge encompasses the darkness of inner beliefs, our inner beliefs have a profound impact on our actions and character. If our inner beliefs are rooted in righteousness and faith, they will manifest in our behavior and interactions. Conversely, if our inner beliefs are corrupted or misguided, they will lead us astray and result in negative consequences.
Reflecting on this Hadith, we should strive to cultivate a strong connection with Allah, seeking His guidance and purifying our hearts. We should remember that Allah's knowledge is all-encompassing and penetrates through the veils of the unseen. Let us turn to Him in repentance, seeking His forgiveness and guidance, and strive to align our inner beliefs with the teachings of Islam.
May Allah, the Glorified, guide us in purifying our hearts and minds, and may He grant us the ability to strengthen our connection with Him. Ameen.
