(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Devising Of Allah)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ أمِنَ مَكْرَ اللّهِ هَلَكَ۔

This can be translated as,

One who feels secure from the devising of Allah is destroyed.

Let us delve into the connotation of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

Firstly, let us understand the key words in this Hadith. The word (amana) "أمِنَ" means to feel secure or safe. (makr) "مَكْرَ" refers to the devising or planning of Allah. And (halak) "هَلَكَ" means to be destroyed or perish.

To comprehend the depth of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. In Surah Al-A'raf (7:99), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) warns us,

Do they feel secure from the plan of Allah? But no one feels secure from the plan of Allah except the losing people.

This verse echoes the message of the Hadith, emphasizing that those who feel secure from the plans and decrees of Allah are indeed on the path of destruction.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Anfal (8:30), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

And [remember, O Muhammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.

This verse highlights the contrast between the plans of the disbelievers and the plans of Allah. It serves as a reminder that Allah's plans are superior and ultimately prevail.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) warns us against underestimating the wisdom and power of Allah's plans. It cautions us against feeling secure and complacent in our lives, thinking that we are in control of our destinies. Such a false sense of security can lead to our downfall.

When we reflect upon this Hadith, we realize that it is a call to humility and submission to the will of Allah. It reminds us that we are mere servants of Allah and that our lives are in His hands. We should never become arrogant or think that we are immune to the trials and tribulations of this world.

Moreover, this Hadith serves as a motivation for us to constantly seek refuge in Allah and seek His guidance and protection. It reminds us to be vigilant and aware of the signs and plans of Allah in our lives. By recognizing that Allah is the best of planners, we can surrender ourselves to His wisdom and trust in His divine decree.

The consequences of disregarding this Hadith are grave. Those who feel secure from the plans of Allah may become heedless and neglectful of their duties towards Him. They may engage in sinful behavior, thinking that they will not face any consequences. However, this false sense of security can lead them astray and ultimately result in their destruction in this world and the hereafter.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a profound reminder for all Muslims. It warns us against feeling secure from the plans and decrees of Allah. We must always remember that Allah is the best of planners and that our lives are in His control. By recognizing this, we can humble ourselves before Him, seek His guidance, and strive to live a life of righteousness and obedience. May Allah protect us from the deception of feeling secure and grant us the wisdom to surrender to His plans.
