(Ghurar al-Hikam: Putting Trust In Allah)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
مَنْ تَوَكَّلَ عَلَى اللّهِ كُفِيَ۔
This can be translated as,
One who trusts in Allah is catered for.
In this Hadith, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of placing our trust and reliance solely on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
The word (tawakkala) "تَوَكَّلَ" comes from the root word (wakala) "وَكَلَ", which means to rely, trust, or depend on someone. It signifies a complete surrender of one's affairs to Allah, acknowledging that He is the ultimate source of all provisions and blessings. It is an act of putting our trust in Allah's wisdom, mercy, and ability to take care of our needs.
This concept of trust in Allah is beautifully emphasized in the Quran as well. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah At-Talaq (65:3),
And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.
This verse reaffirms the message of the Hadith, highlighting that when we place our trust in Allah, He will suffice us and take care of our needs.
Furthermore, in Surah Ash-Shura (42:36), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,
So rely upon Allah; indeed, you are upon the clear truth.
This verse encourages us to have complete trust in Allah, reminding us that our reliance on Him is based on the firm foundation of truth and certainty.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a profound reminder for Muslims to place their trust in Allah in every aspect of their lives. When we trust in Allah, we acknowledge His infinite knowledge, wisdom, and power. We recognize that He is the ultimate provider and sustainer, and that He has the ability to fulfill our needs and cater to our well-being.
Trusting in Allah brings numerous benefits and blessings. Firstly, it instills a sense of peace and tranquility in our hearts, knowing that we have placed our affairs in the hands of the Most Merciful. It alleviates anxiety and worry, as we understand that Allah is in control and will take care of us.
Secondly, trusting in Allah strengthens our relationship with Him. It deepens our faith and reliance on His divine guidance. We become more connected to Allah, seeking His help and guidance in all matters of our lives. This reliance on Allah fosters a sense of humility and submission, recognizing that we are dependent creatures in need of His mercy and assistance.
Thirdly, when we trust in Allah, we are more likely to make wise decisions and take calculated risks. We understand that our success and outcomes are ultimately in the hands of Allah, and that He will guide us towards what is best for us. This trust in Allah empowers us to face challenges and difficulties with patience and perseverance, knowing that He will provide us with the strength and solutions we need.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a powerful reminder for Muslims to place their trust in Allah. By relying on Him, we acknowledge His infinite wisdom, power, and mercy. This trust brings peace to our hearts, strengthens our relationship with Allah, and empowers us to make wise decisions. Let us strive to cultivate this trust in Allah in all aspects of our lives, knowing that He is the ultimate provider and caretaker. May Allah grant us the ability to trust in Him wholeheartedly and cater to our needs.
