Generosity

Generosity for the sake of Allah is the worship of those who are close [to Allah]. اَلجُودُ فِي اللّهِ عِبادَةُ المُقَرَّبينَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Generosity without fear or hope of recompense is true generosity. اَلجُودُ مِنْ غَيْرِ خَوْف ولارَجاءِ مُكافاة، حَقيقَةُ الجُودِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Give generously and you will be honoured. إسْمَحْ تُكْرَمْ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The most generous of you is the one who will gain the most. أسْمَحُكُمْ أرْبَحُكُمْ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The most excellent of noble traits is generosity. أحْسَنُ المَكارِمِ الجُودُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The best generosity is to forgive after gaining the upper hand. أحْسَنُ الجُودِ عَفْوٌ بَعْدَ مَقْدُرَة۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The greatest generosity is being open-handed with whatever is available. أفْضَلُ الجُودِ بَذْلُ المَوْجُودِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The greatest generosity is delivering the rights to their [rightful] owners. أفْضَلُ الجُودِ إيصالُ الحُقُوقِ إلى أهْلِها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The greatest generosity is giving despite [facing] hard times. أفْضَلُ الجُودِ ما كانَ عَنْ عُسْرَة۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Generosity is [true] leadership, sovereignty is [only] administration. اَلجُودُ رِياسَةٌ، اَلمُلْكُ سِياسَةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Generosity is a present honour. اَلجُودُ عِزٌّ مَوْجُودٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Generosity is the protector of honour. اَلجُودُ حارِسُ الأعْراضِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The bane of generosity is poverty. آفَةُ الجُودِ الفَقْرُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The bane of generosity is wastefulness. آفَةُ الجُودِ التَّبْذيرُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Through generosity, authority is acquired. بِالجُودِ تَكُوُنُ السِّيادَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Generosity stems from nobility of character. اَلجُودُ مِنْ كَرَمِ الطَّبيعَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Through generosity, men gain authority. بِالجُودِ تَسُودُ الرِّجالُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Through generosity, distinction is established and praise is acquired. بِالجُودِ يُبْتَنَي المَجْدُ وَيُجْتَلَبُ الحَمْدُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be generous with whatever you have, [and] you will be praised. جُدْ بِما تَجِدْ تُحْمَدْ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be generous and you will gain authority; be patient and you will be triumphant. جُدْ تَسُدْ، وَاصْبِرْ تَظْفُرْ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The generosity of the poor is the best generosity. جُودُ الفَقيرِ أفْضَلُ الجُودِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be generous with what is available, fulfil your promises and be loyal with the trusts [that have... جُودُوا بِالمَوْجُودِ، وأنْجِزُوا الوُعُودَ، وأوْفُوا بِالعُهُودِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The generosity of a poor person dignifies him and the stinginess of a rich person debases him. جُودُ الفَقيرِ يُجِلُّهُ، وبُخْلُ الغَنِيِّ يُذِلُّهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be generous with that which perishes and you will be compensated for it with that which lasts. جُودُوا بِما يَفْنى تَعْتاضُوا عَنْهُ بِما يَبْقى۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
