Humility

Humility is the more superior of the two honours. اَلتَّواضُعُ أفْضَلُ الشَّرَفَيْنِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humility in spite of [having a] high rank is like forgiveness in spite of [possessing the] power... اَلتَّواضُعُ مَعَ الرِّفْعَةِ كَالعَفْوِ مَعَ القُدْرَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humility is the cornerstone of intelligence and pride is the cornerstone of ignorance. اَلتَّواضُعُ رَأْسُ العَقْلِ، والتَّكَبُّرُ رَأسُ الجَهْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be humble and you with be elevated. اِتَّضِعْ تَرْتَفِعْ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The greatest of people in loftiness is one who humbles himself. أعْظَمُ النّاسِ رِفْعَةً مَنْ وَضَعَ نَفْسَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The most honourable of attributes is humility, forbearance and affability. أشْرَفُ الخَلائِقِ التَّواضُعُ والحِلْمُ، ولينُ الجانِبِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humility elevates, pride abases. َالتَّواضُعُ يَرْفَعُ، اَلتَّكَبُّرُ يَضَعُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humility is the fruit of knowledge. اَلتَّواضُعُ ثَمَرَةُ العِلْمِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humility elevates the abased. اَلتَّواضُعُ يَرْفَعُ الوَضيعَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humility is the symbol of nobility. اَلتَّواضُعُ عُنْوانُ النُّبْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humility spreads [one’s] virtue. اَلتَّواضُعُ يَنْشُرُ الفَضيلَةَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humility is the alms-tax of honour. اَلتَّواضُعُ زَكاةُ الشَّرَفِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humility is the most honourable eminence. اَلتَّواضُعُ أشْرَفُ السُّؤْدَدِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humility is the ladder of honour. اَلتَّواضُعُ سُلَّمُ الشَّرَفِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humility is one of the snares [for capturing] of honour. اَلتَّواضُعُ مِنْ مَصائِدِ الشَّرَفِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Verily if you become humble, Allah will elevate you. إنَّكَ إنْ تَواضَعْتَ رَفَعَكَ اللّهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم It is through humility that one gets elevated. بِالتَّواضُعِ تَكُونُ الرِّفْعَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Through humility the loftiness [of a person] is measured. بِالتَّواضُعِ تُزانُ الرِّفْعَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Through increased humility, honour is perfected. بِكَثْرَةِ التَّواضُعِ يَتَكامَلُ الشَّرَفُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Humble yourself before Allah and He will elevate you. تَواضَعْ لِلّهِ يَرْفَعْكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The humility of a person elevates him. تَواضُعُ المَرْءِ يَرْفَعُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The completeness of honour is [in] humility. تَمامُ الشَّرَفِ اَلتَّواضُعُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The humility of a noble person is the cause of his honour. تَواضُعُ الشَّريفِ يَدْعُو إلى كَرامَتِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The fruit of humility is love. ثَمَرَةُ التَّواضُعِ اَلمَحَبَّةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
