To Put [Others] Under Obligation

There is no good deed with obligation. لامَعْرُوفَ مَعَ مَنّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no pleasure in the good turn of the obliger. لالَذَّةَ لِصَنيعَةِ مَنّان۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no evil quality more repulsive than [putting others under] obligation. لاسَوْأَةَ أقْبَحُ مِنَ المَنِّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم people of goodness and beneficence, do not put [others under] obligation with your favours for... يا أهْلَ المَعْرُوفِ والإحْسانِ لاتَمُنُّوا بِإحْسانِكُمْ، فَإنَّ الإحْسانَ وَالمَعْرُوفَ يُبْطِلُهُ قُبْحُ الاِمْتِنانِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Beware of putting obligations with your good acts for indeed [putting others under] obligation... إيّاكَ والمَنَّ بِالمَعْرُوفِ فَإنَّ الاِمْتِنانَ يُكَدِّرُ الإحْسانَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
