Putting someone under obligation blackens the favour.
اَلْمَنُّ يُسَوِّدُ النِّعْمَةَ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Obligation is the corruptor of good actions.
اَلْمَنُّ مُفْسِدَةُ الصَّنِيعَةِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Obligation spoils the favour.
اَلْمَنُّ يُنَكِّدُ الإحْسانَ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Obligation corrupts the good act.
اَلْمَنُّ يُفْسِدُ الصَّنيعَةَ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Obligation corrupts the favour.
اَلْمَنُّ يُفْسِدُ الإحْسانَ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
There is wickedness with obligation.
اللُّؤْمُ مَعَ الاِمْتِنانِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Doing acts of kindness along with obligation is vileness.
اَلتَّكَرُّمُ مَعَ الاِمْتِنانِ لُؤْمٌ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The bane of generosity is obligation.
آفَةُ السَّخاءِ المَنُّ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Through obligation the favour is spoilt.
بِالمَنِّ يُكَدَّرُ الإحْسانُ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
By putting a lot of obligation, the good action is spoilt.
بِكَثْرَةِ المَنِّ تُكَدَّرُ الصَّنيعَةُ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Prolonged obligation spoils the pureness of a good turn.
طُولُ الاِمْتِنانِ يُكَدِّرُ صَفْوَ الإحْسانِ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who puts an obligation [on others] by his good action has oppressed magnanimity.
ظَلَمَ المُرُوءَةَ مَنْ مَنَّ بِصنيعِهِ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The oppression of favours is [through] the repulsiveness of [putting others under] obligation.
ظُلْمُ الإحْسانِ قُبْحُ الاِمْتِنانِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Too much obligation spoils the good action.
كَثْرَةُ المَنِّ تُكَدِّرُ الصَّنيعَةَ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who puts an obligation [on others] with his kind act drops [and forgoes] his gratitude.
مَنْ مَنَّ بِمَعْرُوفِهِ أسْقَطَ شُكْرَهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who puts obligation with his goodness has spoilt the good act that he has done.
مَنْ مَنَّ بِمَعْرُوفِهِ فَقَدْ كَدَّرَ ما صَنَعَهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Whoever puts an obligation with his favour, it is as if he has not done a favour.
مَنْ مَنَّ بِإحْسانِهِ فَكَأنَّهُ لَمْ يُحْسِنْ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who puts obligation with his good action corrupts it.
مَنْ مَنَّ بِمَعْرُوفِهِ أفْسَدَ هُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Nothing spoils good actions like putting [others under] obligation.
ما كُدِّرَتِ الصَّنايِعُ بِمِثْلِ الاِمْتِنانِ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
He who puts an obligation [on others] has not made his grant pleasing.
ما أَهْنَأَ العَطاءَ مَنْ مَنَّ بِهِ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who puts [others under] obligation with his good act has not perfected it.
ما أَكْمَلَ المَعْرُوفَ مَنْ مَنَّ بِهِ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
He who puts [others under] a lot of obligation has not made his good turn felicitous.
ما هَنَّأَ بِمَعْرُوفِهِ مَنْ كَثُرَ اِمْتِنانُهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The sin of the charity given by the one who puts obligation is greater than its reward.
وِزْرُ صَدَقَةِ المَنّانِ يَغْلِبُ أجْرَهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
One who puts [others under] obligation does no good to others.
لاصَنيعَةَ لِلْمُمْتَنِّ۔
