Lying

The consequence of lying is rebuke and regret. عاقِبَةُ الكِذْبِ مَلامَةٌ وَنَدامَةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying is the corruption of [one’s] prestige. فَسادُ البَهاءِ الكِذْبُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم And [Allah has ordered the] abandoning of lying as a means of honouring the truth. وتَرْكَ الكِذْبِ تَشْريفاً لِلصِّدْقِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم A person may lie about himself regarding that which he did not do when he is faced with severe... قَدْ يَكْذِبُ الرَّجُلُ عَلى نَفْسِهِ عِنْدَ شِدَّةِ البَلاءِ بِما لَمْ يَفْعَلْهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Excessive lying leads to slander. كَثْرَةُ الكِذْبِ تُوجِبُ الوَقيعَةَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Excessive lying takes away a person’s prestige. كَثْرَةُ كِذْبِ المَرْءِ تُذْهِبُ بَهائَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Excessive lying corrupts the religion and increases the [burden of] sin. كَثْرَةُ الكِذْبِ تُفْسِدُ الدّينَ، وتُعْظِمُ الوِزْرَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Telling lies is not from the moral teachings of Islam. لَيْسَ الكِذْبُ مِنْ خَلائِقِ الإسْلامِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم How repulsive is dishonesty by the people of virtue! ما أقْبَحَ الكِذْبَ بِذَوِى الفَضْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The spoiler of knowledge is dishonesty and the spoiler of seriousness is idle play. نَكَدُ العِلْمِ الكِذْبُ، ونَكَدُ الجِدِّ اللَّعْبُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying and magnanimity don’t go together. لايَجْتَمِعُ الكِذْبُ والمُرُوَّةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no trait more repulsive than lying. لاشيمَةَ أقْبَحُ مِنَ الكِذْبِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The most prevalent thing [among the people] is lying and treachery. أكْثَرُ شَيْء اَلكِذْبُ والخِيانَةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
