Lying

Lying destroys the one who accompanies it and saves the one who eschews it. اَلْكِذْبُ يُرْدي مُصاحِبَهُ، ويُنْجي مُجانِبَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying is [a cause of] disgrace in this world and [leads one to] hellfire in the Hereafter. اَلْكِذْبُ فِي العاجِلَةِ عارٌ وفِي الآ جِلَةِ عَذابُ النّارِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The most repulsive quality is dishonesty. أقْبَحُ الخَلائِقِ اَلْكِذْبُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying is treachery. اَلْكِذْبُ خِيانَةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying makes one fall [into destruction]. اَلْكِذْبُ يُرْدي۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying is the enemy of truthfulness. اَلْكِذْبُ عَدُوُّ الصِّدْقِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Dishonesty is a disgraceful flaw. اَلْكِذْبُ عَيْبٌ فاضِحٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying is alien to [and incompatible with] faith. اَلْكِذْبُ مُجانِبُ الإيمانِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying is disgrace and treachery (and regret). اَلْكِذْبُ مَهانَةٌ وخِيانَةٌ (وَنَدامَةٌ)۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying degrades a person. اَلْكِذْبُ يُزْري بِالإنْسانِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying leads to slander. اَلْكِذْبُ يُوجِبُ الوَقِيعَةَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying tarnishes one’s character. اَلْكِذْبُ شَيْنُ الأخْلاقِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying corrupts everything. اَلْكِذْبُ فَسادُ كُلِّ شَي ْء۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying destroys you even if you are [apparently made] safe by it. اَلْكِذْبُ يُرْدِيكَ وإنْ أمِنْتَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The ugliest thing is falsehood. أقْبَحُ شَيْء ألإفْكُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying leads to hypocrisy. اَلْكِذْبُ يُؤَدّي إلَى النِّفاقِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying is the disgrace of the tongue. اَلْكِذْبُ شَيْنُ اللِّسانِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying and treachery are not from the qualities of the honourable. اَلْكِذْبُ والخِيانَةُ لَيْسا مِنْ أخْلاقِ الكِرامِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lying is the deviation of speech from the divine order [of creation]. اَلْكِذْبُ زَوالُ المَنْطِقِ عنِ الوَضْعِ الإلهِيِّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم It is through lying that the hypocrites adorn themselves. بِالكِذْبِ يَتَزَيَّنُ أهْلُ النِّفاقِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم How evil a speech lying is! بِئْسَ المَنْطِقُ الكِذْبُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The fruit of lying is disgrace in this world and chastisement in the Hereafter. ثَمَرَةُ الكِذْبِ المَهانَةُ فِي الدُّنْيا والعَذابُ فِي الآخِرَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Eschew lying for indeed it alienates one from faith. جانِبُوا الكِذْبَ فَإنَّهُ مُجانِبُ الإيمانِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The sickness of dishonesty is the worst sickness and the lapse of the cautious one is the gravest... عِلَّةُ الكِذْبِ شَرُّ عِلَّة، وزَلَّةُ المُتَوَقِّي أشَدُّ زَلَّة۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
