Arrogance

The fruit of arrogance is vituperation. ثَمَرَةُ الكِبْرِ اَلمَسَبَّةُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The worst of morals is arrogance. شَرُّ الخَلائِقِ الكِبْرُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The worst of all woes of the intellect is arrogance. شَرُّ آفاتِ العَقْلِ الكِبْرُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Counter arrogance with humility. ضادُّوا الكِبْرَ بِالتَّواضُعِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Fear Allah O servants of Allah; do not put on the garment of arrogance, for indeed arrogance is the... فَاللّهَ اللّهَ عِبادَاللّهِ أنْ تَتَرَدَّوْا رِداءَ الكِبْرِ، فَإنَّ الكِبْرَ مَصيدَةُ إبْلِسَ العُظْمَى الَّتي يُساوِرُ بِها... —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrogance is sufficient as a [cause of] loss [and destruction]. كَفى بِالتَّكَبُّرِ تَلَفاً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrogance is enough as an abasement. كَفى بِالتَّكَبُّرِ ضَعَةً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم If Allah were to make arrogance permissible to any one of His creation He would make it permissible... لَورَخَّصَ اللّهُ سُبْحانَهُ فِي الكِبْرِ لاِحَد مِنَ الخَلْقِ لَرَخَّصَ فيهِ لأنْبِيائِهِ، لكِنَّهُ كَرَّهَ إلَيْهِمُ التَّكَبُّرَ... —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who shows haughtiness is crushed. مَنْ تَجَبَّرَ كُسِرَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم From the ugliest forms of arrogance is a man’s arrogance towards his close relatives and members... مِنْ أقْبَحِ الكِبْرِ تَكَبُّرُ الرَّجُلِ عَلى ذَوِي رَحِمِهِ، وأبْناءِ جِنْسِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Nothing brings hatred like arrogance does. مَا اجْتُلِبَ المَقْتُ بِمِثْلِ الكِبْرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Never turn your face away disdainfully and be courteous [to others]; and be humble in front Allah,... لاتُصَعِّرَنَّ خَدَّكَ، وألِنْ جانِبَكَ، وتَواضَعْ لِلّهِ الَّذي رَفَعَكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no praise with arrogance. لاثَناءَ مَعَ كِبْر۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم There is no quality uglier than arrogance. لاخُلْقَ أقْبَحُ مِنَ الكِبْرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم It does not behove one who knows Allah to become haughty. لايَنْبَغي لِمَنْ عَرَفَ اللّهَ أنْ يَتَعاظَمَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
