Arrogance

Arrogance is an inviter towards plunging into sins. اَلكِبْرُ داع إلَى التَّقَحُّمِ فِي الذُّنُوبِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrogance is a destructive trait, one who seeks to increase by it, diminishes. اَلْكِبْرُ خَلِيقَةٌ مُرْدِيَةٌ، مَنْ تَكَثَّرَ بِها قَلَّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrogance grips the hearts just like a fatal poison. اَلْكِبْرُ يُساوِرُ القُلُوبَ مُساوَرَةَ السُّمُومِ القاتِلَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Suppress the manifestations of pride and restrain the flashes (or risings) of arrogance. اِقْمَعُوا نَواجِمَ الفَخْرِ، واقْدِعُوا لَوامِعَ (طَوالِعَ) الكِبْرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Beware of arrogance, for it is the cornerstone of tyranny and disobedience to the Most Merciful. اِحْذَرِ الكِبْرَ فَإنَّهُ رَأْسُ الطُغْيانِ، ومَعْصيَةُ الرَّحْمنِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Beware of arrogance, for indeed it is the greatest of sins and the vilest of faults, and it is the... إيّاكَ والكِبْرَ، فَإنَّهُ أعْظَمُ الذُّنُوبِ، وألأمُ العُيُوبِ، وهُوَ حِلْيَةُ إبْلِيسَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Beware of behaving haughtily with the servants of Allah, for every haughty one is crushed by Allah. إيّاكَ والتَّجَبُّرَ عَلى عِبادِ اللّهِ، فَإنَّ كُلَّ مُتَجَبِّر يَقْصِمُهُ اللّهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The ugliest character is arrogance. أقْبَحُ الخُلْقِ التَّكَبُّرُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The lowliest of all people is one who considers himself to be great. أكْثَرُ النّاسِ ضَعَةً مَنْ تَعاظَمَ في نَفْسهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrogance humiliates. اَلتَّكَبُّرُ يَضَعُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrogance degrades the elevated. اَلتَّكَبُّرُ يَضَعُ الرَّفيعَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrogance shows [one’s] depravity. اَلتَّكَبُّرُ يُظْهِرُ الرَّذيلَةَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrogance is the worst of faults. اَلْكِبْرُ شَرُّ العُيُوبِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrogance is the same as foolishness. اَلتَّكَبُّرُ عَيْنُ الحِماقَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Seeking honour [for oneself] through arrogance is [a cause of] humiliation. اَلتَّعَزُّزُ بِالتَّكَبُّرِ ذُلٌّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Being arrogant about [one’s status in] this world is deficiency. اَلتَّكَبُّرُ بِالدُّنْيا قُلٌّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrogance is the basis of ruin. اَلتَّكَبُّرُ أُسُّ التَّلَفِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrogance is the great trap of the Devil. اَلكِبْرُ مَصيدَةُ إبْليسَ العُظْمى۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Verily, if you become arrogant, Allah will abase you. إنَّكَ إنْ تَكَبَّرْتَ وَضَعَكَ اللّهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The bane of nobility is arrogance. آفَةُ الشَّرَفِ الكِبْرُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Due to arrogance there is loathing. بِالتَّكَبُّرِ يَكُونُ المَقْتُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Through increased arrogance, loss [and ruin] comes about. بِكَثْرَةِ التَّكَبُّرِ يَكُونُ التَّلَفُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The arrogance of a man abases him. تَكَبُّرُ المَرْءِ يَضَعُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The arrogance of a lowly person invites his insult. تَكَبُّرُ الدَّنِيِّ يَدْعُو إلى إهانَتِهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
