Opportunity And Its Loss

Not everything that has gone comes back. لَيْسَ كُلُّ غائِب يَؤُُوُبُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who takes advantage of [unexpected] opportunities remains safe from distress. مَنْ غافَصَ الفُرَصَ أمِنَ الغُصَصَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Whoever finds a place where sweet water enters and he can quench his thirst with it but does not... مَنْ وَجَدَ مَوْرِداً عَذْباً يَرْتَوي مِنْهُ فَلَمْ يَغْتَنِمْهُ يُوشِكُ أنْ يَظْمَأَ ويَطْلُبَهُ فَلا يَجِدُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Many a lost thing is such that it cannot be regained. رُبَّ فائِت لايُدْرَكُ لِحاقُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم It may be that he who strives and acts quickly is saved [and succeeds] while the slow seeker [only]... رُبَّ ساع سَريع نَجا، وطالِب بَطيء رَجا۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The return of an opportunity [that is lost] is far off and unlikely. عَوْدُ الفُرْصَةِ بَعيدٌ مَرامُها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Seize the opportunity when it arises, for indeed you will not get it [again] after you lose it. غافِصِ الفُرْصَةَ عِنْدَ إمْكانِها فَإنَّكَ غَيْرُ مُدْرِكِها بَعْدَ فَوْتِها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Breathe before the necks are strangled, and yield before being driven violently. تَنَفَّسُوا قَبْلَ ضيقِ الخِناقِ، وانْقادُوا قَبْلَ عُنْفِ السِّياقِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Take the respite of the days, protect the boundaries of Islam, and anticipate the sudden attack of... خُذُوا مَهَلَ الأيّامِ، وحُوطُواْ قَواصِيَ الإسْلامِ، وبادِرُوا هُجُومَ الحِمامِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم May Allah have mercy on the one who takes the benefit of respite [and opportunity], hastens towards... رَحِمَ اللّهُ امْرَءاً إغْتَنَمَ المَهَلَ، وبادَرَ العَمَلَ، وأَكْمَشَ مِنْ وَجَل۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Opportunity is quick to pass on and slow to return. اَلفُرْصَةُ سَريعَةُ الفَوْتِ، وبَطيئَةُ العَوْدِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The [passing of] hours diminishes lifetimes and bring [one] closer to annihilation. السّاعاتُ تَخْتَرِمُ الأعْمارَ، وتُدْنِي مِنَ البَوارِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Arrange an abode for yourself before your descent and prepare the dwelling before your arrival. اِرْتَدْ لِنَفْسِكَ قَبْلَ يَوْمِ نُزُولِكَ، ووَطِّ المَنْزِلَ قَبْلَ حُلُولِكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Make your time of comfort a [means of] preparation for the days of your tribulation. اِجْعَل زَمانَ رَخائِكَ عُدَّةً لأيّامِ بَلائِكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Opportunities are things that are [meant to be] seized. اَلفُرَصُ خُلَسٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Loss [of opportunities] are [a cause of] distress. اَلفَوْتُ غُصَصٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Opportunity is a booty. اَلفُرْصَةُ غُنْمٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Loss [of opportunity leads to] burning regrets. اَلفَوْتُ حَسَراتٌ مُحْرِقاتٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The lost [opportunity] does not return. اَلفائِتُ لايَعُودُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Losing an opportunity is distressful. إضاعَةُ الفُرْصَةِ غُصَّةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Times of happiness are short-lived. أوْقاتُ السُّرُورِ خُلْسَةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Opportunities pass by like the passing of clouds. اَلفُرَصُ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ السَّحابِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم When what you want does not happen, then want what happens [and be satisfied with it]. إذا لَمْ يَكُنْ ما تُريدُ فَأَرِدْ ما يَكُونُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم When the opportunity arises, then seize it, for indeed wasting an opportunity leads to distress. إذا أمْكَنَتِ الفُرْصَةُ فَانْتَهِزْها، فَإنَّ إضاعَةَ الفُرْصَةِ غُصَّةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
