A rich person is he who becomes rich through contentment.
اَلْغَنِيُّ مَنِ اسْتَغْنى بِالقَناعَةِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
A [truly] rich person is one who prefers contentment.
اَلْغَنِيُّ مَنْ آثَرَ القَناعَةَ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The rich person feels at home [even when he is] in a strange land.
اَلْغَنِيُّ (اَلْغِنى)فِي الغُرْبَةِ وَطَنٌ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The ignorance of a rich person abases him whereas the knowledge of a poor person elevates him.
جَهْلُ الغَنِيِّ يَضَعُهُ، وعِلْمُ الفَقيرِ يَرْفَعُهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
At times a rich person may be lowlier than an ugly sheep.
رُبَّ غَنِىّ أذَلُّ مِنْ نَقَد۔

Sometimes a rich person may be needier than a poor person.
رُبَّ غَنِىّ أفْقَرُ مِنْ فَقير۔

Few are the rich who [financially] support and assist others.
قَليلٌ مِنَ الأغْنِياءِ مَنْ يُواسي ويُسْعِفُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
How many of the rich are unneeded [because of their unwillingness to help others].
كَمْ مِنْ غَنِىّ يُسْتَغْنى عَنْهُ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
It is obligatory upon the rich person not to withhold his wealth from the poor.
مِنَ الواجِبِ عَلَى الغَنِيِّ أنْ لايَضُنَّ عَلَى الفَقيرِبِمالِهِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Never count the one from whose wealth others don’t get sustenance as a rich person.
لاتَعُدَّنَّ غَنِياً مَنْ لَمْ يُرْزَقْ مِنْ مالِهِ۔

There is no offence greater than the offence of the rich who deprives the needy.
لاوِزْرَ أعْظَمَ مِنْ وِزْرِ غَنِىّ مَنَعَ المُحْتاجَ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Opulence through other than Allah is the greatest indigence and wretchedness.
اَلْغِنى بِغَيْرِ اللّهِ أعْظَمُ الفَقْرِ والشَّقاءِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Seek refuge with Allah from the intoxication of riches, for indeed it has an intoxication that...
اِسْتَعْيذُوا بِاللّهِ مِنْ سَكْرَةِ الغِنى، فَإنَّ لَهُ سَكْرَةً بَعيدَةَ الإفاقَةِ۔

The richest of you are the most contented among you.
أغْناكُمْ أقْنَعُكُمْ۔

The greatest of all riches is the intellect.
أغْنَى الغِنى اَلعَقْلُ۔

The most honourable wealth is abandoning [false] aspirations.
أشْرَفُ الغِنى تَرْكُ المُنى۔

The best of riches is that through with one’s honour is secured.
أفْضَلُ الغِنى ما صينَ بِهِ العِرْضُ۔

The richest of the rich is one who is not a prisoner to greed.
أغْنَى الأغْنِياءِ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِلْحِرْصِ أسِيراً۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The greatest of riches is contentment and toleration of poverty.
أغْنَى الغِنى القَناعَةُ، والتَّحَمُّلُ فِي الفاقَةِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Opulence brings about transgression.
اَلغِنى يُطْغي۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Riches turn one who is not a master into a master.
اَلْغِنى يُسَوِّدُ غَيْرَ السَّيِّدِ۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Wealth and poverty manifest the essences of men and their qualities.
اَلغِنْى والفَقْرِ يَكْشِفانِ جَواهِرَ الرِّجالِ وأوْصافَها۔

—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
The brother of affluence is one who covers himself with contentment.
أخُو الغِنى مَنِ الْتَحَفَ بِالقَناعَةِ۔
—Ghurar al-Hikam
—غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
Arrogance in wealth sows the seed (or warns) of abasement in poverty.
اَلزَّهْوُ فِي الغِنى يُبَذِّرُ (يُنْذِرُ) الذُّلَّ فِي الفَقْرِ۔
