Love for authority is the primary source of tribulations. حُبُّ الرِّياسَةِ رَأْسُ المِحَنِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The embellishment of leadership is bestowing favours. زَيْنُ الرِّياسَةِ الإفْضالُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The fall of nations results from the appointment of depraved leaders. زَوالُ الدُّوَلِ بِاصْطِناعِ السِّفَلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The excellence of leadership is [in] good governance. فَضيلَةُ الرِّياسَةِ حُسْنُ السِّياسَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Lack of leaders is easier to bear than the leadership of the depraved. فِقْدانُ الرُّؤَساءِ أهْوَنُ مِنْ رِياسَةِ السِّفَلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Every nation has its moment. لِكُلِّ دَوْلَة بُرْهَةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Nothing ever preserves nations like the exercising of justice in them. لَنْ تُحَصَّنَ الدُّوَلُ بِمِثْلِ اسْتِعْمالِ العَدْلِ فِيها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who oppresses his people helps his enemies. مَنْ ظَلَمَ رَعِيَّتَهُ نَصَرَ أضْدادَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم By the One who split the grain and created human being!
