Obedience is the shield of the people and justice is the shield of governments. اَلطّاعَةُ جُنَّةُ الرَعِيَّةِ، والعَدْلُ جُنَّةُ الدُّوَلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The disgrace after being deposed is equal to the glory of sovereignty. اَلذُّلُّ بَعْدَ العَزْلِ يُوازي عِزَّ الوِلايَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The humiliation of the man being deposed is equivalent to his evil as a sovereign. اِسْتِكانَةُ الرَّجُلِ فِي الْعَزْلِ، بِقَدْرِ شَرِّهِ فِي الوِلايَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be just in that which you have been given authority and thank Allah for that which has been granted... إعْدِلْ فِيما وُلِّيتَ، أُشْكُرْ لِلّهِ فِيما أُولِيتَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Protect your status near your king and be cautious not to be belittled due to [your] negligence in... أُحْرُسْ مَنْزِلَتَكَ عِنْدَ سُلْطانِكَ، واحْذَرْ أنْ يَحُطَّكَ عَنْها التَّهاوُنُ عَنْ حِفْظِ ما رَقاكَ إلَيْهِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Direct the people [based] on their practices and religions; let the innocent from among them be... أقِمِ النّاسَ عَلى سُنَّتِهِمْ ودِينِهِمْ، وَلْيَأْمَنْكَ بَرِئُهُمْ،وَ لْيَخَفْكَ مُرِيبُهُمْ، وَتَعاهَدْ ثُغُورَهُمْ... —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Make the religion your refuge and justice your sword, [then] you will be safe from every evil and... إجْعَلِ الدّينَ كَهْفَكَ، والعَدْلَ سَيْفَكَ، تَنْجُ مِنْ كُلِّ سُوء، وتَظْفَرْ (تَظْهَرْ) على كُلِّ عَدُوّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Be cautious of inequity and tyranny, for verily inequity invites the sword and tyranny leads to... إحْذَرِ الحَيْفَ والجَوْرَ، فَإنَّ الحَيْفَ يَدْعُو إلَى السَّيْفِ، والجَوْرَ يَعُودُ بِالجَلاءِ، ويُعَجِّلُ العُقُوبَةَ... —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The most loathsome thing is the tyranny of rulers. أقْبَحُ شَيْء جَوْرُ الوُلاةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Kingship is politics. اَلمُلْكُ سِياسَةٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Kingship spoils brotherhood. اَلمُلْكُ (اَلمَلَلُ) يُفْسِدُ الإخْوَةَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Leadership is destruction. اَلرِّياسَةُ عَطَبٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Equity is the embellishment of leadership. اَلإنْصافُ زَيْنُ الإمْرَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Haughtiness in sovereignty leads to disgrace in deposition. اَلتَّكَبُّرُ فيِ الوِلايَةِ ذُلٌّ فِي العَزْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Sovereignties are the arenas of men. اَلوِلاياتُ مَضامِيرُ الرِّجالِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The instrument of leadership is [patience and] large-heartedness. آلَةُ الرِّياسَةِ سَعَةُ الصَّدْرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The bane of leadership is arrogance. آفَةُ الرِّياسَةِ اَلفَخْرُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم When you are given a position of authority, [then] act justly. إذا وُلِّيتَ فَاعْدِلْ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم When the vile become sovereigns, the dignified ones are ruined. إذا مَلَكَ الأراذِلُ هَلَكَ الأفاضِلُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم When the depraved gain authority, hope turns into disappointment. إذا سادَ السِّفَلُ خابَ الأمَلُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم When the wicked become rulers, the honourable are persecuted. إذَا اسْتَوْلَى اللِّئامُ أُضْطُهِدَ الكِرامُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The sovereignty of the vile and inexperienced over nations is the cause of their decline and... تَوَلِّي الأراذِلِ والأحْداثِ الدُّوَلَ، دَليلُ إنْحِلالِها وإدْبارِها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Your haughtiness in sovereignty will be [the cause of your] disgrace in deposition. تَكَبُّرُكَ فيِ الوِلايَةِ ذُلٌّ فِي العَزْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The stability of nations is through the establishment of the practice of justice. ثُباتُ الدُّوَلِ بِإقامَةِ سُنَنِ العَدْلِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
