Matters

Matters come to pass by divine decree, not by [the] planning [of human beings]. اَلاُُمُورُ بالتَّقديرِ لابِالتَّدبيرِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Deduce that which has not happened from that which has transpired, for matters are similar. اِستَدِلَّ على ما لَمْ يَكنْ بِما كانَ فإنَّ الاُمُورَ أشباهٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The most successful matters are those that have been shrouded in secrecy. أنجَحُ الأُمُورِما أحاطَ بِهِ الكِتْمانُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Indeed when matters are similar, the latter is judged by the former. إنَّ الأُمورَ إذا تَشابَهَتْ اُعْتُبِرَ آخِرُها بِأوَّلِها۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Matters are [perfected] through experience [and trial]. الأُمُورُ بِالتَّجرِبَةِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Matters are similar [to one another]. الأُمُورُ أشباهٌ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Matters are subservient to destiny until death (or injustice) enters the plan. تَذِلُّ الأُمُورُ لِلْمَقاديرِ حتّى يَكُونََ الحَتْفُ (الحِيْفُ) في التَّدبيرِِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Seek in your work the course by which your excuse may be credible, your evidence may be established... تَحَرَّ مِنْ أمْرِكَ مايَقُومُ بِهِ عُذرُكَ، وتَثْبُتُ بِِهِ حُجَّتُكَ ويَفيءُ إلَيْكَ بِرُشْدِكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The best matters are those which give rise to certitude. خَيْرُ الأُمُورِ ما أسْفَرَ عنِ اليَقينِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The best matters are those which lead to deliverance [from hellfire]. خَيْرُ الأُمُورِ ما أدّى إلَى الخَلاصِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The best matters are those which are free from cupidity. خَيْرُ الأُمُورِ ما عَرى عَنِ الطَّمَعِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The best matters are those that reveal the truth. خَيْرُ الأُمُورِ ما أسْفَرَ عَنِ الحقِّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The best matters are those that are easy to initiate, end well and give praiseworthy results. خَيرُ الأُمُورِ ما سَهُلَتْ مَباديهِ، وحَسُنَتْ خَواتِمُهُ وحُمِدَتْ عَواقِبُهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The best matters are those that give the quickest benefit and the most praiseworthy results. خَيْرُ الأُمُورِ أعْجَلُها عائدَةً، وأحْمَدُها عاقبَةً۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Take of your matter that which makes your excuse credible and establishes your proof. خُذْ مِنْ أمْرِكَ ما يَقُومُ بِهِ عُذْرُكَ، وتَثْبُتُ بِهِ حُجَتُك۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Sometimes matters look grim (or inescapable). رُبَّما تَجَهَّمَتِ(تَحَتَّمَتِ) الأُمورُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The worst matters are those that are the most dubious. شَرُّ الأُمورِ أكثَرُها شَكاًّ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Blessed is he who is not unaware of the similarity between matters. طُوبى لِمَنْ لَمْ تَغُمَّ عَلَيْهِ مُشْتَبَهاتُ الأُمورِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم Sometimes matters become prevalent (or obscure). قَدْ تَعُمُّ(تُغَمُّ) الأُمورُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who suffers the severity of matters is destroyed. مَنْ كابَدَ الأُمورَ هَلَكَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who suffers the severity of matters, perishes. مَنْ كابَدَ الأُمُورَ عَطِبَ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who neglects his [own] affairs is negligent in all matters. مَنْ ضَيَّعَ أمْرَهُ ضَيَّعَ كُلَّ أمْر۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم The gauge of [successful] matters is [in] their good endings. مِلاكُ الأُمورِ حُسنُ الخَواتِمِ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم One who does not safeguard his affairs is destroyed. هَلَكَ مَنْ لَمْ يُحرِزْ أمْرَهُ۔ —Ghurar al-Hikam —غُرَرُ الحِکَم و دُرَرُ الکَلِم
