Hadith #659

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of maintaining strong bonds with the brethren of purity. Let us delve into the meanings of some key words in this Hadith to better understand its significance.

The word (ikhwan) "إخْوانِ" refers to brethren or brothers, indicating the importance of fostering strong relationships with fellow Muslims. This highlights the significance of unity and brotherhood within the Muslim community. The term (as-safa) "الصَّفا" refers to purity or sincerity. It signifies the importance of maintaining ties with those who possess pure intentions and sincere hearts.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advises us to keep ties with the brethren of purity because they serve as an embellishment in times of ease and a support in times of tribulation. This means that during times of prosperity and abundance, these individuals enhance our lives by their virtuous qualities, bringing joy and happiness. They serve as a source of inspiration, reminding us of the importance of righteousness and piety.

Moreover, during times of difficulty and hardship, the brethren of purity provide us with support and assistance. They offer comfort, guidance, and strength, helping us navigate through the challenges we face. Their presence and encouragement can uplift our spirits and give us the resilience to overcome adversity.

This profound advice from Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is in line with the teachings of the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the importance of maintaining strong bonds of brotherhood and unity among Muslims. In Surah Al-Hujurat (49:10), Allah says,

The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers.

This verse highlights the obligation to reconcile and resolve conflicts among fellow believers, emphasizing the importance of unity and harmony within the Muslim community.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Taubah (9:71), Allah praises the believers who support and assist one another, saying,

The believing men and believing women are allies of one another.

This verse emphasizes the mutual support and assistance that Muslims should provide to each other, especially during times of difficulty and tribulation.

Reflecting on the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and the supporting Quranic verses, we understand the importance of surrounding ourselves with individuals who possess purity of heart and sincere intentions. These individuals not only enhance our lives during times of ease but also provide us with the necessary support and strength during times of hardship.
