Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

الزَّوجَةُ الصَّالِحَةُ أحَدُ الكَسْبَيْنِ

which translates to

A righteous wife is one of the two [lofty] acquisitions.

This impactful saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the immense value and significance of having a righteous wife in one's life.

Let us delve deeper into the words used in this Hadith. The term (az-zawjatu) "الزَّوجَةُ" refers to the wife, specifically the female partner in a marital relationship. The word (as-salihah) "الصَّالِحَةُ" means righteous, pious, or virtuous. It signifies a woman who adheres to the principles of Islam, fulfills her religious obligations, and strives to please Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in all aspects of her life. The word (ahadu) "أحَدُ" means one of, indicating that a righteous wife is one of the two lofty acquisitions.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the importance of choosing a righteous spouse in several verses. In Surah An-Nisa (4:1), Allah says,

O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.

This verse highlights the divine origin of human beings and the importance of choosing a spouse who shares the same faith and values.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Qasas (28:26), Allah narrates the story of Prophet Musa (Moses) and describes how he found a righteous wife. Allah says,

One of the two women said, 'O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy.'

This verse emphasizes the qualities of a righteous spouse, who is trustworthy, reliable, and possesses moral strength.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement highlights the significance of a righteous wife as one of the two lofty acquisitions. A righteous wife is a source of tranquility, support, and companionship for her husband. She plays a crucial role in the spiritual and emotional development of her family. Her righteousness influences the entire household, fostering an environment of love, piety, and devotion to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

A righteous wife is a blessing from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) that brings numerous benefits and blessings. She is a partner who assists her husband in fulfilling his religious obligations and encourages him to strive for righteousness. Her piety serves as a motivation for her husband to improve himself and seek closeness to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). She becomes a source of inspiration and a role model for her children, instilling in them the values of Islam and nurturing their spiritual growth.

On the other hand, a righteous wife also brings about positive changes in her own life. She strives to embody the qualities of a true believer, constantly seeking knowledge, practicing patience, showing kindness, and maintaining a strong connection with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). Her righteousness is not limited to her relationship with her husband and children but extends to her interactions with the wider society, where she becomes a beacon of light and a source of guidance for others.

In conclusion, Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith highlights the immense value and significance of having a righteous wife in one's life. A righteous wife is not only a source of love and companionship but also a means of attaining spiritual growth and righteousness. Her influence extends beyond the confines of the household, impacting the entire community. Muslims should strive to choose a spouse who embodies the qualities of righteousness and piety, as this choice is one of the two lofty acquisitions that bring blessings and happiness in this world and the Hereafter. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) bless us all with righteous spouses and grant us success in our pursuit of righteousness.
