(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Truth)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

لا يُغْلَبُ مَنْ يَسْتَظْهِرُ بِالحَقِّ۔

This can be translated as,

One who takes the support of truth is not defeated.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this enlightening saying in light of the Quran. The word (yastazhiru) "يَسْتَظْهِرُ" in the Hadith is derived from the root word (zahara) "ظَهَرَ", which means to support, assist, or take refuge in. It implies seeking strength and protection from the truth, relying on it as a source of guidance and support. The word (bil-haqq) "بِالحَقِّ" means truth, which is an absolute and unchanging reality.

The Quran emphasizes the importance of seeking support from the truth in numerous verses. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Isra (17:81),

And say: 'Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed is falsehood, [by nature], ever bound to depart.'

This verse highlights the eternal nature of truth and its ultimate victory over falsehood. Those who align themselves with the truth will never be defeated, as the truth is a force that cannot be overcome.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hajj (22:62), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

That is because Allah is the Truth, and that which they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Most High, the Grand.

This verse emphasizes that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) Himself is the ultimate truth. Seeking support from the truth means seeking support from Allah, the Most High, who is the source of all strength and victory.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement highlights the importance of aligning oneself with the truth in all aspects of life. When one seeks support from the truth, they are guided by the principles of justice, honesty, and righteousness. They do not compromise their values or integrity for personal gain or temporary victories. Instead, they rely on the truth as their foundation, knowing that it will ultimately lead to success and triumph.

Taking the support of truth has profound consequences in our lives. It shapes our actions, decisions, and interactions with others. When we prioritize truth in our relationships, we build trust and foster genuine connections. When we uphold truth in our dealings, we establish justice and fairness. When we seek truth in our knowledge, we gain wisdom and understanding. By aligning ourselves with the truth, we become agents of positive change and bring about a world that is just and harmonious.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his unparalleled knowledge and wisdom, exemplified this principle throughout his life. He stood firmly for the truth, even in the face of adversity and opposition. His unwavering commitment to justice and righteousness earned him the title of

The Gate of the City of Knowledge

by the Prophet Muhammad (). Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) life serves as a shining example of the power and strength that comes from taking the support of truth.

As Muslims, we are called to embrace the teachings of the Quran and the guidance of the Ahl al-Bayt. We are reminded by Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith that when we align ourselves with the truth, we are never defeated. Let us strive to seek support from the truth in all aspects of our lives, knowing that it is the path to success, both in this world and the hereafter. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the strength and guidance to always uphold the truth and be among those who are never defeated.
