Hadith #5448

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his righteous companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "الشَّهْوَةُ تُغْرِي" which translates to "Lust entices." This concise statement holds profound wisdom and serves as a reminder for Muslims to be cautious of the allure and deception of their desires.

The word (shahwah) "شَّهْوَةُ" refers to the intense desire or passion that arises within an individual. It can encompass various forms of desires, including physical desires, such as sexual desires, as well as emotional and materialistic desires. This word carries a connotation of strong inclination and attraction towards something.

The word (tughri) "تُغْرِي" is derived from the root word (gharra) "غَرَّة", which means to deceive or delude. It implies that lust has the ability to entice and mislead individuals, leading them away from the path of righteousness and towards sinful actions.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) warns us about the dangers of succumbing to our desires in several verses.
