— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Truthfulness)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure and noble Ahl al-Bayt, and his righteous companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "النَّجاةُ مَعَ الصِّدْقِ" which translates to

Salvation is with the truth.

This thought-provoking saying holds great significance and can be understood in light of the teachings of the Quran.

The word (najah) "نَجَاةُ" refers to salvation, deliverance, or being saved from harm or destruction. It implies being rescued from the perils of this world and the hereafter. The word (sidq) "صِدْقِ" means truth, sincerity, and honesty. It signifies the state of being truthful in one's words, actions, and intentions.

In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the importance of truth and its connection to salvation. Allah says in Surah Al-Isra (17:81),

And say: 'Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed is falsehood, [by nature], ever bound to depart.'

This verse highlights the eternal nature of truth and its ability to overcome falsehood. It is through embracing and upholding the truth that one can attain salvation.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-A'raf (7:29), Allah says,

Say, 'My Lord has ordered justice and that you maintain yourselves [in worship of Him] at every place [or time] of prostration, and invoke Him, sincere to Him in religion.' Just as He originated you, you will return [to life].

This verse emphasizes the importance of sincerity and truthfulness in worshiping Allah. It is through sincere devotion and adherence to the truth that one can attain salvation and return to Allah.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement,

Salvation is with the truth,

serves as a reminder for Muslims to prioritize truthfulness in all aspects of their lives. It encompasses not only speaking the truth but also embodying it in one's actions and intentions. The path to salvation lies in aligning oneself with the truth and rejecting falsehood.

By adhering to the truth, Muslims can avoid the pitfalls of deception, hypocrisy, and dishonesty. Truthfulness brings about numerous benefits and blessings in this world and the hereafter. It strengthens relationships, fosters trust, and leads to a righteous and fulfilling life.

Moreover, Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a motivation for Muslims to seek knowledge and deepen their understanding of the truth. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) was known for his unparalleled knowledge and wisdom. His profound understanding of the truth allowed him to navigate through the complexities of life and guide others towards salvation.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ)

Salvation is with the truth

emphasizes the importance of truthfulness in attaining salvation. It reminds Muslims to prioritize truth in their words, actions, and intentions. By aligning oneself with the truth, Muslims can navigate through the challenges of life and strive for eternal salvation. May Allah guide us all to the path of truth and grant us salvation.
