Hadith #11133

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

God-wariness is the leader of moral virtues.

This wise utterance emphasizes the importance of "taqwa" in shaping our character and guiding our actions. Taqwa, often translated as "God-wariness" or "piety," is a comprehensive concept that encompasses consciousness of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), fear of His displeasure, and striving to fulfill His commands and avoid His prohibitions.

To understand the significance of taqwa, let us delve into the meanings of the key words in this Hadith. "Rais" means "leader" or "chief," indicating that taqwa holds a central position in the hierarchy of moral virtues. O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.
