(Ghurar al-Hikam: Death)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic phrase of the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is "الأمر قريب" which translates to

The matter is near

in English. This concise statement holds deep meaning and significance, and it can be understood and analyzed in the light of the Quran.

One possible interpretation of this Hadith is that it refers to the Day of Judgment, which is the ultimate and final matter that every human being will face. The phrase

The matter is near

implies that the Day of Judgment is imminent and will occur sooner than we may anticipate. This understanding is supported by various Quranic verses that emphasize the certainty and nearness of the Day of Judgment.

Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Qamar (54:1),

The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].

This verse highlights the proximity of the Day of Judgment, as indicated by the splitting of the moon, which was one of the miracles granted to the Prophet Muhammad (). It serves as a reminder that the end of this world is drawing closer, and we must prepare ourselves for the ultimate accountability.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Qiyamah (75:1-2), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

I swear by the Day of Resurrection. And I swear by the self-reproaching soul.

These verses emphasize the certainty of the Day of Resurrection and its close proximity. The oath taken by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) signifies the importance and seriousness of this event, urging us to reflect upon our actions and prepare for the ultimate outcome.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder to Muslims that the Day of Judgment is not a distant event but rather something that is approaching rapidly. It is a call to action, urging us to prioritize our spiritual growth, seek forgiveness for our sins, and strive to attain righteousness. The awareness of the nearness of the Day of Judgment should motivate us to lead a life of piety, justice, and compassion.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) was known for his profound knowledge and wisdom. His statement,

The matter is near,

reflects his deep understanding of the Quran and his ability to convey profound truths concisely. As Muslims, we should take his words to heart and strive to live our lives in accordance with the teachings of Islam, knowing that the Day of Judgment is approaching.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ),

The matter is near,

serves as a reminder of the certainty and proximity of the Day of Judgment. It calls upon Muslims to reflect upon their actions, seek forgiveness, and strive for righteousness. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to prepare for the Day of Judgment and lead a life that pleases Him.
