Hadith #8022

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his righteous companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

لاخَيْرَ في مُعين مُهين۔

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of having a helper or supporter who does not humiliate others. Let us delve deeper into the meaning of this beautiful Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word (mu'in) "مُعين" refers to a helper or supporter, someone who assists and aids others. This term signifies the role of individuals in society who lend a helping hand to those in need. However, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) warns that if this helper is someone who humiliates others, then there is no good in their assistance.

Humiliation is a grave sin in Islam, as it undermines the dignity and self-worth of individuals. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has honored mankind and commanded us to treat one another with respect and kindness. In the Quran, Allah says, (Quran 49:13)

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

This verse highlights the importance of recognizing the inherent worth and equality of all individuals. It teaches us that true nobility lies in righteousness, not in the humiliation of others. Therefore, a helper who belittles or humiliates those they are supposed to assist goes against the teachings of the Quran and the principles of Islam.

Furthermore, the Quran emphasizes the importance of kindness and compassion towards others. Allah says, (Quran 31:18)

And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.

This verse reminds us to avoid arrogance and pride, as it leads to the mistreatment and humiliation of others.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to be mindful of their behavior and treatment of others, especially when offering assistance. It highlights the importance of having helpers who are not only knowledgeable and capable but also respectful and considerate.

When a helper humiliates others, it not only causes immediate harm but also has long-lasting consequences. It creates a toxic environment where individuals feel degraded and demoralized, hindering their growth and potential. Moreover, it erodes trust and hinders the development of strong and supportive communities.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) possessed immense knowledge and wisdom, and he exemplified the qualities of a true leader and helper. His teachings and actions were rooted in the principles of justice, compassion, and respect for others. He understood that true assistance lies in uplifting and empowering individuals, not in demeaning them.

As Muslims, we are called to follow the example of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and strive to be helpers who bring goodness and honor to those we assist. We should treat others with kindness, respect, and dignity, recognizing their inherent worth as creations of Allah. By doing so, we not only fulfill our duty as Muslims but also contribute to the building of a just and compassionate society.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us in being helpers who uplift and support others without resorting to humiliation. May He grant us the wisdom to follow the teachings of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and the righteous path of Islam. Ameen.
