Hadith #6866

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his righteous companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the virtue and nobility of the people who possess chastity. The word (ahl) "أهْلُ" refers to the people or individuals who possess a certain quality or characteristic. In this context, it refers to those who possess (al-'afaf) "العَفافِ", which can be translated as chastity, purity, or modesty. The word (ashraf) "أشْرَفُ" means the most honorable or noble, and (al-ashraf) "الأشْرافِ" refers to the honorable or noble individuals.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. In Surah Al-Hujurat (49:13), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

This verse highlights that true nobility and honor are not based on one's lineage, wealth, or social status, but rather on their righteousness and piety. Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do. And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women.

These verses highlight the importance of lowering one's gaze and guarding one's modesty. Both men and women are instructed to protect their private parts and not to display their adornments except to those who are permitted to see them. This emphasizes the concept of modesty and the preservation of one's dignity and honor.

The people of chastity, as mentioned in the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), are those who embody these Quranic teachings.
