Hadith #7364

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "العِلْمُ لِقاحُ المَعْرِفَةِ۔" This thought-provoking saying can be translated as,

Knowledge is the fecundation of cognizance.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word (knowledge) "عِلْمُ" in this Hadith refers to the understanding and awareness of various subjects and matters. It encompasses both religious and worldly knowledge. It is through knowledge that we gain insight, wisdom, and the ability to discern between right and wrong. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the importance of seeking knowledge in the Quran, stating, (Quran 96:1)

Read! In the name of your Lord who created.

The word (fecundation) "قاحُ" in this Hadith signifies the process of fertilization and the beginning of growth. So know, [O Muhammad], that there is no deity except Allah and ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. And Allah knows of your movement and your resting place.

This verse highlights the connection between knowledge and faith. By seeking knowledge, we come to know and understand the oneness of Allah, which strengthens our faith and leads us closer to Him.
