اَلإسْلامُ أبْلَجُ المَناهِجِ۔
Islam is the most illuminated course.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Islam)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "الإسلامُ أبْلَجُ المَناهِجِ" which translates to
Islam is the most illuminated course.
Let us delve into the significance of this statement in light of the Quran.
The word (Islam) "إسلام" comes from the root word "س ل م" which means submission, surrender, and peace. Islam is a comprehensive way of life that encompasses the submission of one's entire being to the will of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It is a path of enlightenment, guidance, and righteousness. The word (ablaj) "أبْلَجُ" means the most illuminated, radiant, and bright. It signifies the brilliance and clarity of the path of Islam.
The Quran provides us with numerous verses that shed light on the illuminating nature of Islam. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:16),
Guidance has come to you from your Lord, so whoever follows guidance will not go astray nor suffer.
This verse emphasizes that Islam is a source of divine guidance that leads individuals towards the straight path, ensuring they do not deviate or face any harm.
Additionally, in Surah Al-An'am (6:126), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,
And this is the path of your Lord, [leading] straight. We have detailed the verses for a people who remember.
Here, Allah highlights that Islam is the straight path, a path that is clear and unambiguous. It is a path that has been elucidated through the verses of the Quran for those who reflect and remember.
The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the luminosity of Islam, highlighting its brilliance and clarity. Islam illuminates the path of its followers, guiding them towards righteousness, truth, and salvation. It is a path that brings enlightenment to the hearts and minds of believers, enabling them to navigate the challenges of life with wisdom and discernment.
When we embrace Islam, we embark on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth. Islam provides us with a comprehensive framework that encompasses all aspects of life, including our relationship with Allah, ourselves, and others. It offers guidance on matters of faith, worship, morality, ethics, social justice, and personal development.
By adhering to the teachings of Islam, we are able to lead a life of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment. Islam enlightens our hearts with the remembrance of Allah, purifies our souls through acts of worship, and instills in us a sense of responsibility towards our fellow human beings. It encourages us to seek knowledge, pursue justice, and strive for excellence in all our endeavors.
The illuminating nature of Islam has profound consequences for individuals and society as a whole. When Muslims embrace the illuminated course of Islam, they become beacons of light in a world filled with darkness. Their actions, guided by the principles of Islam, inspire others and contribute to the betterment of society. They become agents of positive change, promoting peace, justice, and compassion.
Furthermore, the illumination of Islam extends beyond the individual level. It has the power to transform communities and nations, fostering unity, harmony, and progress. When societies adhere to the principles of Islam, they establish systems that are based on justice, equality, and the well-being of all members. This leads to social cohesion, economic prosperity, and a sense of collective purpose.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) beautifully encapsulates the essence of Islam as the most illuminated course. Islam, with its divine guidance and comprehensive teachings, illuminates the path of its followers, enabling them to lead a life of righteousness, purpose, and fulfillment. By embracing Islam, we become beacons of light, contributing to the betterment of ourselves, our communities, and the world at large. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to fully comprehend and embody the illuminating nature of Islam.
