مَنْ رَضِيَ بِقِسْمِهِ لَمْ يُسْخِطْهُ أحَدٌ۔
One who is satisfied with his portion will not be angered by anyone.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Being Pleased And Satisfied)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Blessings and peace be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
مَنْ رَضِيَ بِقِسْمِهِ لَمْ يُسْخِطْهُ أحَدٌ۔
This Hadith emphasizes the importance of being content with what Allah has decreed for us in our lives. Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith in light of the Quran.
The word (radiya) "رَضِيَ" in this Hadith means to be pleased, satisfied, or content. It signifies a state of inner tranquility and acceptance. When we are content with our portion, we are not easily angered or disturbed by the actions or words of others. This contentment stems from recognizing that everything that happens to us is a result of Allah's divine decree.
Allah reminds us in the Quran of the importance of contentment in Surah At-Tawbah, verse 59: (And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, saying,
If He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous.
)
This verse highlights the importance of being content with the portion that Allah has bestowed upon us and using it for righteous deeds.
Another verse that supports the concept of contentment is found in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 216: (But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.)
This verse reminds us that what we perceive as negative or undesirable may actually be beneficial for us in the long run. Therefore, being content with our portion is a reflection of our trust in Allah's wisdom and His knowledge of what is best for us.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that when we are content with our portion, we are not easily angered by anyone. This means that we are not affected by the actions or words of others that may otherwise provoke us. Our contentment acts as a shield, protecting us from negative emotions and allowing us to maintain a state of inner peace.
This Hadith encourages us to reflect on our own reactions and responses to situations. If we find ourselves easily angered or disturbed by the actions of others, it may be a sign that we are not truly content with our portion. By cultivating contentment, we can free ourselves from the shackles of anger and resentment, and instead focus on self-improvement and spiritual growth.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the importance of being content with our portion. This contentment is a reflection of our trust in Allah's divine decree and His wisdom. By being content, we can protect ourselves from being easily angered by others and maintain a state of inner peace. May Allah grant us the ability to be content with what He has decreed for us and guide us on the path of righteousness.
