Hadith #1579

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

This implies that we should not engage in futile arguments or waste our time trying to convince them, as their hearts may be closed to the truth.

This teaching of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) aligns with the Quranic principle of enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Imran, verse 104: (Quran 3:104)

Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong. And it is they who are the successful.

This verse highlights the importance of standing up for the truth and inviting others towards goodness. It is our duty as Muslims to oppose falsehood and guide others towards the path of righteousness. Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advice to leave those who persist in opposing the truth is also supported by the Quran. In Surah Al-Kahf, verse 29, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says: (Quran 18:29)

And say, 'The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve.'

This verse reminds us that guidance is ultimately in the hands of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), and it is up to individuals to choose whether to accept or reject the truth. We should focus our efforts on conveying the message of truth, but we cannot force anyone to accept it. It is essential to recognize that guidance comes from Allah alone.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) instruction to leave those who oppose the truth also serves as a reminder of the consequences of persisting in falsehood. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) warns in Surah Al-Kahf, verse 29: (Quran 18:29)

Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.

This verse highlights the severe punishment awaiting those who persist in opposing the truth and choosing falsehood. It serves as a reminder that we should strive to align ourselves with the truth and distance ourselves from those who persist in falsehood.
