In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of self-reliance and the virtue of earning praise through one's own efforts. The Imam states that it is incumbent upon the intelligent person to acquire praise and honor through their wealth, while also safeguarding themselves from the need to ask others for assistance.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this profound Hadith by examining its key words and their implications. The word (mahmada) "محمدة" in Arabic refers to praise, commendation, or honor. It signifies the positive recognition and esteem that one can achieve through their actions and accomplishments. The word (mas'ala) "مسألة" refers to asking or seeking assistance from others. To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of self-sufficiency and self-reliance. In Surah Al-Isra, verse 80, Allah says,

And say: My Lord! Cause me to come in with a firm incoming and to go out with a firm outgoing. And give me from Thy presence a sustaining Power.

This does not mean that seeking help or assistance when necessary is discouraged. Islam encourages mutual support and cooperation within the community. However, the Hadith highlights the importance of minimizing our reliance on others and taking responsibility for our own well-being.
