Hadith #2557

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The benevolent is supported, the malevolent is scorned.

Let us delve into the meanings of the important words in this Hadith to gain a deeper understanding.

The word (muhsin) "مُحْسِنُ" refers to someone who is benevolent, virtuous, and does good deeds. This person strives to excel in their actions and treats others with kindness and compassion. On the other hand, the word (musi') "مُسِيءُ" refers to someone who is malevolent, wicked, and engages in harmful actions towards others. They intentionally cause harm and spread negativity.

To comprehend the profound wisdom behind this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hajj (22:38),

Indeed, Allah defends those who have believed.

This verse emphasizes that Allah supports and protects those who have faith and engage in righteous deeds. The benevolent individuals, who strive to do good and benefit others, are indeed supported by Allah in their endeavors.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Qasas (28:83), Allah states,

That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.

This verse highlights that those who refrain from seeking power and causing corruption, but instead focus on righteousness, will ultimately attain the best outcome. The benevolent individuals, who choose not to engage in malevolence and corruption, are indeed rewarded by Allah.

The consequences of being a muhsin (benevolent) or musi' (malevolent) are significant. The muhsin is supported by Allah, and their actions have a positive impact on society. They inspire others to follow their example and contribute to the betterment of the community. Their kindness and compassion create an environment of harmony and love.

On the other hand, the musi' is scorned by Allah. Their malevolent actions bring harm and suffering to others. They create divisions, spread negativity, and disrupt the peace within society. Their behavior is condemned and leads to their own degradation and isolation.

Reflecting upon this Hadith, we are reminded of the importance of embodying the qualities of a muhsin. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his immense knowledge and wisdom, exemplified this virtue throughout his life. His benevolence and justice were evident in his interactions with others, regardless of their background or beliefs. He treated people with respect and kindness, even in the face of adversity.

As Muslims, we should strive to follow in the footsteps of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and be among the muhsinun. By doing so, we can contribute to a more harmonious and compassionate society. Let us remember that our actions have consequences, and it is through our benevolence that we can earn the support and blessings of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). May Allah guide us all to be among the muhsinun and protect us from the path of the musi'.
