Hadith #11230

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

كُنْ مُتَوَكِّلاً تَكُنْ مَكْفِيّاً۔

This can be translated as,

Have trust in Allah and you will be catered for [by Him].

This profound statement by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of placing our complete reliance and trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in all aspects of our lives.

Let us delve deeper into the meaning of the key words in this Hadith. (tawakkul) "تَوَكُّل" refers to putting one's trust and reliance in Allah. It is a state of complete surrender and dependence on Him, acknowledging that He is the ultimate provider and sustainer. (makfiyy) "مَكْفِيّ" means being content and satisfied with what Allah provides, knowing that His provisions are sufficient for us.

The concept of tawakkul is beautifully emphasized in the Quran. Allah says in Surah At-Talaq (65:3),

And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him.

This verse echoes the essence of Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement, highlighting that when we place our trust in Allah, He becomes our ultimate source of support and provision.

Furthermore, in Surah Az-Zumar (39:36), Allah says,

Is not Allah sufficient for His servant?

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a powerful reminder for Muslims to cultivate a deep sense of trust in Allah. It encourages us to rely on Him in times of difficulty, knowing that He is the best of planners and will provide for us in ways we may not even comprehend.

This trust also enables us to overcome fear and anxiety, as we understand that Allah is the ultimate controller of all affairs.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) himself exemplified the quality of tawakkul. His unwavering trust in Allah was evident in his actions and decisions. For example, during the Battle of Khandaq, when the Muslim army faced immense challenges, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) remained steadfast and relied on Allah's help. This trust in Allah's support and guidance ultimately led to the victory of the Muslims.
