Do not let the worry of the day which has not come upon you bear on the day which has [already] come upon you, for indeed if it will be from your lifetime, [then] Allah, the Glorified, will grant your sustenance in it and if it is not from your lifetime then what worry do you have for that which is not for you?!

— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Sustenance And One Who Seeks It)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Peace and blessings be upon Muhammad (), his progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), and his companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of living in the present moment and not being consumed by worries about the future. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advises Muslims not to let the concerns of a future day burden them on a day that has already arrived. The Imam highlights the futility of worrying about events that have not yet come to pass, as Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the Provider and Sustainer, and He will ensure that sustenance reaches His servants in the appointed time.

This profound advice from Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) resonates with the teachings of the Quran, where believers are encouraged to trust in Allah's divine plan and to have faith in His wisdom and provision. In Surah Al-Ankabut, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 65:3)

And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) guidance reminds Muslims to focus on the present moment, fulfill their responsibilities diligently, and trust in Allah's plan for their sustenance and well-being. By letting go of unnecessary worries about the future, believers can find peace and contentment in the knowledge that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the best of Providers and He will take care of His servants according to His wisdom and decree.

Furthermore, the Quranic verse in Surah Al-Baqarah reinforces the concept of relying on Allah and seeking His help in times of distress, (Quran 2:45)

And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah].

This verse underscores the importance of patience, prayer, and trust in Allah's plan, which aligns with Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advice to not be burdened by worries about the future.

In conclusion, Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a timeless reminder for Muslims to live in the present moment, trust in Allah's provision, and not be consumed by anxieties about the future. By embodying the teachings of patience, reliance on Allah, and contentment with His decree, believers can navigate life's challenges with grace and faith, knowing that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the Best of Planners and Sustainers.
