Hadith #3134

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ كَثُرَ خُرْقُهُ اُسْتُرذِلَ۔

This can be translated as,

One whose ineptness increases is scorned.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this enlightening Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word (khurquhu) "خُرْقُهُ" in the Hadith refers to one's ineptness or shortcomings. It signifies the lack of knowledge, understanding, or competence in a particular matter. When a person's "خُرْقُهُ" increases, it means their ineptness is growing, and they are becoming more deficient in their abilities.

To understand the consequences of such ineptness, we turn to the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 269,

He grants wisdom to whom He pleases; and whoever is granted wisdom is indeed given a great good.

This verse highlights the importance of wisdom and knowledge. It is through wisdom that one can navigate through life's challenges and make sound decisions. However, when a person's ineptness increases, they become devoid of wisdom, leading to poor judgment and decision-making.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-An'am, verse 119, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

Why should Allah guide those who have disbelieved after they had believed and had witnessed that the Messenger is true and clear signs had come to them?

This verse emphasizes the importance of recognizing and accepting the truth when it is presented to us. However, when a person's ineptness increases, they fail to recognize the truth and may even reject it, leading to their own downfall.

The consequences of increasing ineptness are further highlighted in Surah Al-Mu'minun, verse 54, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

So leave them in their confusion for a time.

This verse refers to those who persist in their ignorance and refuse to seek knowledge. As a result, they are left in a state of confusion and misguidedness. Similarly, when a person's ineptness increases, they become trapped in their own ignorance, unable to progress or find guidance.

Reflecting upon the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), we understand that increasing ineptness leads to being scorned. When a person lacks knowledge or competence in a particular matter, they are unable to contribute meaningfully or fulfill their responsibilities. This can lead to others looking down upon them, questioning their abilities, and even ridiculing them.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his immense knowledge and wisdom, reminds us of the importance of continuously seeking knowledge and improving ourselves. By doing so, we can avoid falling into the trap of increasing ineptness and the subsequent scorn that follows. It is through knowledge and competence that we can contribute positively to society, make informed decisions, and earn the respect of others.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder for Muslims to constantly strive for knowledge and competence. Increasing ineptness leads to being scorned, as it hinders our ability to make wise decisions, recognize the truth, and contribute effectively. Let us seek knowledge, reflect upon the teachings of the Quran, and emulate the wisdom of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in all aspects of our lives. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the wisdom and understanding to avoid increasing ineptness and earn His pleasure.
