Hadith #1142

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

One who hopes for that which is not possible, his anticipation becomes long.

But when He saves them, at once they commit injustice upon the earth without right. O mankind, your injustice is only against yourselves, [being merely] the enjoyment of worldly life. Then to Us is your return, and We will inform you of what you used to do.

This verse reminds us that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the ultimate source of all blessings and favors. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.

This verse teaches us that our limited understanding may lead us to desire things that are ultimately detrimental to our well-being. Therefore, it is essential to trust in Allah's wisdom and accept His decree, even if it contradicts our personal desires.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith emphasizes the importance of aligning our hopes and desires with what is realistically achievable. Similarly, in matters of spirituality, if a person hopes for immediate spiritual enlightenment without putting in the necessary effort and struggle, their anticipation will become long and unfulfilled. True spiritual growth requires consistent devotion, self-reflection, and adherence to the teachings of Islam. By setting realistic expectations and striving sincerely in the path of Allah, individuals can experience spiritual growth and closeness to their Creator.
